Unhappy water sprayers?

alright alright........sup ya'll I'm a new evo owner/mitsubishi owner/awd owner/turbo and intercooler owner. I know quite a bit about cars and I work at pep boys but.......I've never owned one with an intercooler and I dunno how the shiznit works. First of all I know the operation of the spray nozzles and whats going on but I dunno if its supposed to be sprayin "ALL OVER THE FREAKIN place!!!" Its leavin little spray marks on the front grill and small leaks on or around the whole front bumper whenever I spray it on manual. IS THIS NORMAL??? cmon guys I need some quick feedback here I'm freakin out. Do I need to get it checked? much thanks.

The only reason you would really need to use the spray is if you are driving very hard for a long time, i.e. - track use more often than anything else. Even then it's use may or may not even provide any service at all according to a couple of posts from people who have already visited the track. Otherwise it's just a cool button you can show all your friends.

Hmm... define "ALL OVER THE FREAKIN place!!!"

Seriously though if it truly is all over the place you might want to consider getting it checked out by the dealer. And I'm not sure what you mean by "small leaks on or around the whole front bumper".

But like Yojimbo said, you don't really need to be spraying it every time.

There's no where it can spray that would be dangerous or problematic really. It's designed to dispurse over the intercooler as much as possible, so I'd assume that would appear to be everywhere.

How do you know when it's spraying in auto mode? Does the light on the dash blink? I know it's solid green when auto is on...

The manual spray mode is all but useless. like everyone has said, you only use the sprayer when driving HARD for EXTENDED periods. And to manually activate the spray switch would mean pulling one hand off the wheel and reaching all the way down to hit the button, which usually isn't the smartest thing to do on a track unless on a straight. Now, as I'm sure most of you are aware, the fluid doesn't spray directly onto the intercooler, but straight up from the nozzle. The wind pushes the spray into the intercooler. I hit the manual button at a dead stop in a parking lot, playng around, and there it was...fluid on the front/underside of the bumper. Is this what your'e talking about??

You use the manual to spray down the intercooler before a run for like 30-40 seconds....We all know that the engine worst enemy is heat. So cooler air more HP.

I think the IC sprayer is tapped from the washer fluid bottle. There is no separate container

[edit - I am wrong. It's stated in another post the tanks are separate]

If you look under the hood, you'll clearly see a resevoir with the picture of an intercooler on it. The tank is not shared with the washer tank, which from what I understand, might actually be in the trunk.

Next time my buddy pops the hood, I'll see if I can find the washer tank to verify.

water or washer fluid??

i haven't used the intercooler spray button alot.. just to check out if there was any differance.. none that i could notice.. but anyway.. while reading the manual it seems that the intercooler resivour..(in the engine bay) was origianlly filled with washer fluid?? it seems to me that they should have used water.. i haven't really checked if it was water or fluid of some sort.. i would assume that refilling with water would be fine.. what are you guys filling yours with? water?
