Evo Mechanical Problems?
Evo Mechanical Problems?
Hi everyone,
I am very close to buying a IX, but after the past few weeks, am concerned and having second thoughts. Seems like mechanical problems are showing up, such as seized bottom end, tranny/differential oil leaks, engines not starting etc. I'm about to pick up a second job to pay for the Evo and will not have time to sit at a dealership waiting for them to diagnose problems, especially having to wait or come back over a weekend. I don't want another car like my RX-7 where I need to keep dumping $$ to keep it running. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sleepers, but am tired of unreliability.
I'm thinking, if I do get a IX, I'm going to leave it stock to avoid warranty problems. Otherwise, I'll just pick up a Civic and not deal with going to the dealership for warranty related problems (and keep my wrx that I would trade in on the Evo, which has 250+ whp tuned by Dynocomp).
From reading posts on this forum, I see there are lots of very knowledgable people here and would like to hear their opinions.
Thanks

If you treat your car right, you shouldn't have very many problems, if any. Sure you'll get some squeeks and rattles, but major problems are usually driver or a maintenance related error. Just remember, no one ever starts a thread telling us how they have had no problems with their car. They only start threads if they have problems. Even with Fords and Chevy's, etc., not every car has problems. Well, maybe those to automakers are exceptions, but you get my idea.
You can drive yourself crazy reading all of these posts. I traded in my '04 WRX for an EVO IX MR because of all of the 'nightmares' people were having with the WRX 5 speed, Even though mine was perfectly fine. I guess if your a 'glass half empty' kind of guy like me these sites will drive you crazy.
P.S. You can't go wrong with an EVO.....
