Electrical/buzzing sound from rear of car.

There’s a strange buzzing/humming/electrical sound coming from the rear underneath the car. It’s been warm the past couple of days and it’s the first time I’ve had my windows down to notice the sound.

I checked to see if the buzzing happens when I have the key turned to the “ON” position, however, it only occurs when the engine is running. I recently (few weeks ago) had a Walbro fuel pump installed.

Could it be the fuel pump? Is that normal noise?

Thanks.

Wow, that was a quick response! Thanks guys.

Yeah, I called my friend who has a WRX and has had a Walbro pump for several years and he says it’s normal too.

I was guessing it’s the new pump.

Thanks again.

Do the IX's have a bigger or higher flowing Fuel Pump then the VIII's, stock? I can hear the fuel pump on my IX, not real load, but noticable. Every performance car I've ever had, you can hear the Fuel Pump.

It’s possible, but I’m not sure. Some of the other guys may know.

The 9 does come with a bigger “hotside” (and other improved components) and produces more power and torque from the factory than the 8.

You could call the dealer and see if the part numbers are the same. If they’re different, I’m guessing it’s an upgraded pump over the one used in the 8... hence, the sound could be normal.

the IX comes with an upgraded fuel pump over the 8. i believe the IX,s pump is rated at 230- 235 compared to the walbro,s 255.

Im gonna have to take a short video of my pump just so you guys know what a really loud pump is. The whinebro is a quite little guy.

You can guess that this thing isnt quite. I really need to put some rubber bushings to make it less noisy.

Quit bragging about your fuel pump and clean those brakes. That was a joke.
