Mods with stock ecu program equals lean condition??

Ok, I recently sold my 03 evo and bought new evo 9. With the recent rash of blown motor posts, and we all know evos dont come with a warrenty worth a sh*t. My question is with the stock ecu program, when you bolt on an intake, exhuast, ic piping will it cause the car to run lean?? Your obvioulsy moving more air, so a lean condition is logical, but does the ecu compensate? I"m beginning to think that its best to put all the parts on at one time and then be tuned?

correct. intakes should not be put on unless you are gonig to be getting a tune soon after. an exhaust is not the same situation but should definately get a tune afterwards to maximize the power you get from the new exhaust. When modding the car a tune should accompany any power mods to maximize power and also make sure the car reacts correctly as to not introduce any poor running conditions

well, the ECU compensates....but that compensation loses you power(ie timing pulled) so thats why a tune is a good idea. BUT BUT BUT, intake is waste of money.....you will not gain any(and may lose) power unless at optimal condtions, like the hood being up with a big huge fan blowing on it at the dyno.....

Get an afc and wideband and tune it as you go along. If you mod a car without tuning it you will be very disappointed.

I think what makes some lean or untuned conditions with intakes is the way the intake changes the air's path over the air sensor, not necessary the volume

well I have a stage 2 kit from buschur that I took off my 03. The 03 was flashed, and it made great power. I dont see why an intake would would reduce hp, under those circumstances.

You can always get an intake, flash, and fuel pump first....you could do that for under 500 bucks, then bolt on an exhuast later if money is an issue?...because you dont need a reflash for installing an exhaust later....

I"m leaning towards putting an exhaust on, then doing the rest when I have time to get tuned.

thats a much better idea than putting an intake on the car. get a nic 3" TBE and a tune and you'll be much happier with the power gains that if you went ahead and put an intake on it

Yeah I believe it always safe to get your EVO tuned soon after bolt on modifications. That is why I'm doing all my ordering of parts and installing them and getting tuned right after.
