clutch

k... so 3 months after i bought my evo8 (at the beginning of 05) my stock clutch went out.... so i bought the exedy cerametallic 4puck...... now 10 months with that clutch and it is slipping real bad already..... 15k miles on the car and my second clutch is shot already... and as we all know the clutch is not covered by the warranty......... so i have 2 questions:
1. is anyone else having as much clutch problems as me
and
2. what clutch should i get... i want performance, but something that will hopefully last longer than 10 months/12k miles..... is there anything i can do to prolong the life of my clutch (short of not spooling the turbo anymore???)????

Question begs how hard do you drive your car (launching in particular)?

10 months is kinda quick for a aftermarket clutch.. who installed it for you? exedy twin disk is the clutch i would go with.

but the twin wont save him from going through clutches like crazy, and its kind of expensive to replace every 10,000 miles. he should figure what about his driving style is causing the clutches to burn so quickly.

the twin will be better for your drivetrain, less shock, smoother shifting

i don't launch much and i don't drag (officially) at all.... i do run autocross, but most the time i don't even launch in the beginning cause the courses typically aren't set up for that...... mostly i'm hard on 2nd and third gears..... but i do launch and push first every once in a while..... and the dealership installed the exedy..... but beyond the exedy going so fast, there's the fact my stock clutch went out after 3k miles....

36k on stock and I drive hard enough...I think it's either the driving or a bad install.

i have the twin i notice no difference other than you have to rev it a little more because the flywheel is lighter so when you are starting its easier to kill the car if you dont pay attention. and its not hard on the drivetrain at all, and i dont know anyone with the twin that has said streetability is an issue.

but i went 30k on the stock clutch and changed it before it started slipping

the only real difference it quicker engaugement, clutch "chatter", and a little harder clutch pressure.

supposedely the new HD excedy twin has much less chatter than the non HD, and less decelleration vibration. even the older version is a good everyday driver. had it on my 03 and no daily driving problems. once you get used to it you,ll be able to drive it chatter free pretty much but the decel noise might still be there. Its just the nature of the beast. good luck
