Here are pic's of my WRX,

This fit better then my stock exhaust.

They should be out to the public very sortly.
There is lots of stuff out there for the WRX.... I had a pretty good 3" turbo back exhaust in mine and they only cost in the neighborhood of $600.... fit pretty well too.

This time I'm doing things differently....I'm looking for genuine Ralliart or Mitsubishi parts *only* for my EVO. I know folks make good parts and lots of manufacturers are making great exhausts and all, but I do not wish to go that route again.

Anybody know where to get the appropriate Ralliart "sport muffler kit" for the EVO VIII?

Thanx,

Manuel

Extreme Motorsports just completed a prototype cat-back exhaust, and should be finishing the downpipe this week. They showed off the cat-back to DSMCAers on Saturday.

Did you get a chance to hear it? My WRX turbo back was too loud and I was happier with the sound after I put it back stock.... (it came with a Dinomax muffler)

The exhaust I had was made by VRS Exhaust in Miami FL. They make these types of exhaust systems for WRXs abd EVOs for sale to foreign countries. The guy who handles these things, Miguel Villar Jr. told me that they make lots of those for rally racers all over South America and the Caribbean. Check out www.vrsexhaust.com

I didn't get to hear the Extreme exhaust at high revs, but it was pretty quite at low revs/ when idling. Terry (the father -- it's his car) said it was relatively quiet, though. He said he doesn't want the new turbo-back system to be too loud, since he will be driving the Evo a lot. FWIW, the cat-back was 3 inch mandrel-bent stainless steel, but they will also have a Ti system (probably just the muffler). Terry also said the ss cat-back was significantly lighter than the stock system.

I just called Vivid. The jic that they will have available in May was made for the Evo vii, but it fits the viii as well. (around an inch or more shorter. I dont really like the idea of it not fitting perfectly, so I am waiting. I was checking out RMR products, they look good. Also curious to see what Thermal will bring.

I wonder if the exhaust is really too short.... If you look at the stock tail pipe, it seems to end somewhat short from the end of the bumper anyway.... My biggest concern is that whatever exhaust I use will actually give more power rather than take it away or just make more noise or a different sound.... I read in one of the car rags about the mods they did to a 350Z and pretty much all the thing they did created problems of one kind or another. The exhaust they had fabricated was very nice, big, with mandrel bends, Stainless and all yet the car *lost* 7 hp!!! I sure don't want that kind of *improvements* in my EVO....

silver,

I believe you are referring to the SportCompactCar 350Z article. There are a couple of things to keep in mind. The exhaust they used was pieced together using parts for a different application (porsche, IIRC.) Also, the Z is naturally aspirated, and thus exhaust upgrades are not as beneficial. Add on top of that, Nissan did a lot of research to design and extremely effecient stock system.

As you can see, this wasn't really a recipe for success. You will probably be hard pressed to find a cat back exhaust for the EVO that loses power.

Just my 2 pennies.

Does RMR have a price on the exhaust?

Yes, you are correct, that's the article I was referring to. Although what you say is true about the Nissan's design and the pieces they used to fab the exhaust, that's pretty much what is likely to be done by people trying to make an exhaust for the EVO..... I thought I read in several places that the exhaust of the EVO is actually quite cleverly designed and thusly, hard to improve. While it's generally true that a turbo engine's best exhaust is a huge megaphone right after the turbo, this is not necesarily so in all applications. I think particularly with a street car like the EVO, it's very important that the exhaust meet all the driveability requirements, meet or exceed legal requirements, avoid causing CELs or making the computer do bad things,*and* make more power... No mean feat, I think.....
This is why I'm leaning towards only using Ralliart parts or something equally as good.
