Evo VIII front LSD

Hi All,
Does anyone know what LSD will fit up front in the US Evo? Is the front drive shaft different than the JDM with AYC/ACD? Also, which would be better up front, clutch-type or Torsen type?
Cheers,

Cheers,
I don't think that you want the have a clutch type diff in there. In order to decrease over-powering of the turning wheel, you need a torque sensing type diff.

As of the JDM type center/front diff combo (or should I say just transfercase instead), I remember seeing it in two parts as oppose to the EVO7 version where everything was in one piece. There might be an option to use JDM type front diff with the LSD type that comes in the US.

Good luck!

RMR just put ACD in their evo 8. They needed to swap the dash with an evo 7 because of the ACD button and the tarmac/gravel/snow indicators in the gauge cluster. They said it would cost a customer about 3 - 4K to do it including all the labor. I believe the parts are a little over 2K including the ACD, ACD ECU, the EVO7 gauge cluster, and the ACD button (either get the 7 dash or find a way to stick the button somewhere else on your current dash). I would give them a call if you're insterested.

Hi Coolguy,
I don't want ACD, just a mechanical front differential.

i don't know much about the actual mechanical aspect of the evo, but nissan is using a helical LSD for the spec-v and it seems to be the way to go for a front differential. it performs just as well as a viscous LSD but doesn't get heatsoaked and break down the fluid like viscous LSDs have the tendancy of doing. of course i have no idea if there is a helical lsd made for the evo, but it's just my 0.02

The main difference is that viscous type LSDs need some slippage to occur in order for them to start to work. In the front, that would lead into overpowering turning wheel and aiding to the understeer.

Helical type sense that slip before it actually happens, and correct the distribution accordingly. This way it doesn't affect oversteer (actually it helps in curing it) up to the point when you apply more power in the front then those wheels can handle. Then somewhat aggressive push usually happens. By that time you would know that you are doing something very wrong!

Hi All,
Well, I am an idiot. The Evo front diff is located in the transfer case so no front driveshaft issues. RMR is currently looking into differences between the US and JDM spec if any. Will report back.

I thought the front LSD for EvoIV, V,VI and VII RS were all Helical type, possible to just swap them to the VIII?

Well, they still are coming out of the transfer case (front axles, assuming that is what you are talking about), so possible differences still might exist. Don't be too hard on your self. Not yet at least!

Do you know of their web site, perhaps?

Thanks

Well, somehow, RMR didn't go with the Road Race Motorsport, regardless of how hard I tried...

Thanks!!
