Will $5K get you into the 10's in a IX?

anyone who knows anything about our cars to you are probably vendors, and of course they'll tell you it can't be done....THEY WANNA SELL YOU MORE STUPID PARTS

i mean, you said the crank had to be strengthened for god sakes, you should be the last person to give input.
if you can read, i did not say it needed to be strengthend, but needs to be strong, becuase u will need at least a 50 shot with 40 psi to to make up for the absense of supporting mods to run 10's, and if you have ever been to AMS just look at erics crank, im sure he can tell you what happend. The engine will not make it down the track, detenation will kill it for sure without a good ecu and tune.

Like I said when i started this thread, the car would just need "ONE or TWO" good runs. I'm also being a realist about this whole thread. What my coworker asked kind-of got me thinking about whether it would be possible. I realise that it would be pretty hard to do, but one guy already ran an 11.8? (i think) in his IX with just a K&N dropin, TB exhaust, reflash and boost controller (I'm not exactly sure of his mods so don't hold me to it!! ).

All I'm saying is that you guys don't think its possible to get 3/4's of a second out of a IX with some additional basic mods? Preferably somewhat reliable mods (no N02). I also realise it would need a new clutch after 3 or 4 good trys, so don't count that either!!

have you lost it? what mods am i leaving out? it costs 400 bucks for a custom flashed ECU, i included that the second time. do you know what detonation is? what causes it? or do you just drive your car up to ams, write a check, and say 'fix it'?

Well...this is what I have so far, and I'll be there soon:

cams, injectors, fuel pump and fuel rail: 700
exedy twin disc with install: 900
intercooler with pipes and mini batt: 1000
big *** turbo/manifold: 1700
UTEC with tune: 1000

Already have:

TBE (paid retail - Invidia): 1000
ARC Intake: 350
greddy bov: 100
NX sprayer kit: 300
greddy profec B: 150
boost gauge: 20

Had I bought all that crap on a budget would've only paid 1000 for all of it b/c I would've done it differently. I know there's a few things I'm missing, but with those prices, I'm pretty close...based on the stuff I already have (had I been on a 5K budget) and the stuff I'm getting now (hehehe sitting in my house waiting for me to have time to put it in), I would have spent: $6500 I know I could've gotten some things cheaper, but I splurged and got a new turbo and had a manifold made, so I would say it's doable...

You can do it!

For ppl who do not work on ther cars or don't know alot , it can not be done.

For ppl who know how to work on ther own cars and knows the evo it can be done.

I love Mivec!

These two sentences pretty much sum it up. I think we've only tipped the iceberg when it comes to MIVEC and its utilization. Plus, installation wasn't really to be included in the original $5k proposition, but maybe I'll just leave it as is.

*edit*- Im gonna propose a "with" or "without" labor clause on the first post, to see what people think.

I was in the low 2's in the 1/4 mile and only paid $2k for a used flux capacitor off of Ebay. Something weird did happen when I reached 88mph though

If you swap over to the JDM flux capacitor, you'll finish the quarter mile before you start ... just like Chuck Norris.
