Unfortunately, I can't suggest to you a good single disk, because I don't know of one yet.
Where do you come up with this crap? There are alot of really good single disc clutchs out there.
Spec makes really nice clutchs, so does center force and many others.
Its a little off the topic but my GTi was putting down a little over 500 whp on a stock clutch. Before it started to slip and it had 97k on it.
I use the competition series stage 3 clutch now and it holds more tq than Evo's make, at lease with his mods. http://www.eiptuning.com/eip/a3golfj...aclutches.html

What do you mean where I do come up with this crap? What crap are you talking about?

Do not talk about VWs; we are talking about Evos, and on the Evo, all single disks have the same problems with the 7k lockout issue. I don't know why you brought up Spec and Centerforce. ACT and Exedy are much more popular and trustworthy, but they also have the same problem. Have you dealt with a single disk upgrade on your Evo and been through a full year of trouble with it while spending tons of time talking to people on here about the problems and even discussing it over the phone for several hours with the CTO of ACT?

I don't know why you think your VW experience or knowledge has anything to do with the Evo. There's no correlation.

That is of no help whatsoever. Do you think ACT and Exedy don't make good clutches? Of course they do; that's not the point. The point is that I don't know of a good single disk that I can recommend with 100% assuredness due to the common problems that _ALL_ single disk clutches have on the Evo. And guess what...you don't know either.

It doesn't get anymore ignorant than thinking because two cars have clutches that they both respond the same to aftermarket clutches...

Warrtalon...I ALWAYS look forward to the logic, facts, knowledge, and EVO SPECIFIC experience in your posts.

I have driven 50,000 miles on stock Evo clutches. I have also read every post I can find on Evo clutches...HKS, ATS, TILTON, EXEDY, ACT, RPS...etc. All drivers that aggressively launch/drive their cars ONLY speak of dual-disc (or triple-disc) setups for the Evo. I expect my IX will end up with a carbon/carbon dual disc setup when the time comes...

It seems to be a difficult choice if someone only has funds for a single-disc replacement clutch.

What would you recommend as the least objectionable single-disc setup, knowing that a multiple-disc setup is preferable?

That's the problem, ranmonbu, I DON'T have a recommendation right now for a single disk.

I can say that my ACT was a pain in the ***, but there's no evidence that the problems I encountered wouldn't have also been encountered with other single disks. It also took everything I could give it en route to lots of 1.6 60's, tons of 12.0-12.3 drag runs, 40 autocrosses, and 250 minutes of road racing, which is important because I don't know how to heel-toe yet, so I hurt the clutch on every hard-braking downshift before tight turns.

The ACT held all my power just fine, but I'm going to be testing a new Exedy single disk to see if it can handle my abuse. I will let everyone know the results, but it will be a while before that happens, since it will be showing up this week and won't be fully-abused for a while.
