Electrical Problem 1st day..
Electrical Problem 1st day..&Tranni/T.C. :(
As title reads... I just bought my 1st Evo.. I've always been a DSM guy so the Evo is my "super DSM". Call me crazy but I'd rather hae an evo then any other car. Anyways.. the bad news...
Just bought the 03 Evo w/ 38k miles from a dealer in PA and I live in CT. 1/2 way home the gauges in my car went out along with the power windows and signal lights. Oddly enough, hazards work and power doorlocks, so who knows how Mitsu wired it all. Anyways... When I got into CT and I was 3miles from my house my clock was dimmed out, my headlights went out and the car was in like a limp-mode (AKA... running like crap). Got it into a gas station and charged it up off my other car's bater for a few and was able to get it home BARELY!
So anyways, I spent a lot of money on this car and thats the issue. The fuse it keeps blowing is the gauge fuse (7.5A) on driver's side floor area. I read the Amperage with a meter and its well over 16A! BAD! I ended up ripping down m dash to see if I could find an exposed wire by eye-sight, and jacked the car up to look around the exhaust, and around the engine area... I can't physically see anything. Any ideas?
I love this car and I wanna drive it soo bad.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has advice/can help.

Sounds like the previous owner may have removed some electrical-related upgrade parts (stereo stuff, turbo timer, boost/ignition/fuel controller, etc) and did a hack job. I'd do all I could to find out the history of upgrades, contact the previous owner if at all possible.
Yeah.. As far as I can see, the car has an intake/exhast/bov. I ripped the aftermarket stereo out, and the boost gauge. The voltage sourse that they used on the gauge they did by slipping under my "gauges" fuse. Go FIGIGURE... The same fuse I'm haveing problems with.
Anyways, just hooked a voltage meter up to my btery. Altenator is prolly F$%ed! 11.34V. Any other thoughts??

All those things you listed are typically powered with a 2nd ignition (meaning there is power in the 2nd position or after the car is started). The PDL and hazards are constant (on all the time, but are dormant until you use them)
I would drop your underdash and take a peek at the ignition harness. It may also be possible there is something shorting under the hood as well. Also, replace the fuse they stuffed the wire under (sometimes it causes shorts). Check your grounds as well. If loose, they cause resistance, therefore drawing more current to run something that doesnt need that much. Alternator definately sounds like its on its way out (should be just about 14.4v when the car is running).
Its difficult to diagnose an electrical issue when its not in front of me. Good luck... Let me know if you need more help.

Just an update... I can not find any of my papers that came with the car, and I know for sure I didn't take them out of the car, so I have nothing on the car. Also, the dealership in PA is telling me to go F$&# myself basically; they told me to get my car into a Mitsu dealer, and I did... elcetrical problem was found, but the tranni needs new synchros and whatever they might find when they take it apart, and the car needs a transfer case (but I cant get those covered under warrenty). Aftermarket clutch voids tranni, and the transfer case apparntly has been replace twice already under warrenty! They PA Dealer offered to pay my 1st month on my loan, get me a Cat for the exhasut and pay for diagnostics at the dealership. They wont take the car back and they're sticking me with the tranni problems and the bad transfer case. Don't get me wrong... maybe I'm the one who's nuts, but I'm thinking they knew something might go wrong with the car... Oh yeah, btw I paid $22,500 for the damn thing and it's AS-IS with no help!!
I thought it didnt matter, if you bought a car in PA, it still needed to be road-worthy. If anyone in PA knows these Laws, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

Isn't the transfer case and tranny covered under the Mitsubishi warranty??? Pa. laws - not lawyer but I don't think they will be much help. A lawyer will probably probably charge more than just fixing the problems.

sooo... yeah, AS-IS car with "full factory warranty" that actually has no warranty basically b/c everything is actually void basically. Nice huh? Glad to see that I get screwed like this all the time...
i feel for you but you should've researched the vin number beforehand....such as carfax.com...
but hindsight is 20/20...i hope everything works out for you somehow.
also, is there no lemon law that applies here?

i think that this might be a good time to lawyer up and see what he can do. btw, can you please post the name of the dealership you bought the car from, i want to make sure no one buys from them again..
NOTE TO EVERYONE ELSE BUYING A USED EVO:
call mitsu and find out if the car is still under warranty and make sure the dumb $hit before you didn't do something to get it voided.
also, they know there is a TSB on the tranny....thats beat up they won't fix that for you regardless of the clutch. i can understand the t-case them not fixing....because a heavy clutch and idiot driver can murder that thing. good luck

Also, I asked about the TSB on the tranni grind.. It is only to inform the dealership how to put the synchros back in correctly I guess. They said you cna mix up 5th and 3rd gear.
The dealership I bought the car from is Autostrada. Please note. I am not slandering them, I am only stating the facts: I bought a bad car form them that they said had full factory powertrain warranty. And now they will not take the car back. They are offering to give my money for a Cat that they said the car had (which it doesn't) and they offered to cover the elecetrical, but want to stick me with the tranni/transmission issues. This is what I know at this point in time. Link to their site: http://www.stradacars.com DONT BE FOOLED BY THEIR CARS.
