Its indeed a 20G-8, with the TME internals, the entire setup was intended to produce peak torque very low, and the turbo was part of the picture. Surging on the 20G-8 is a factor of adjustment of the wastegate actuator and DV, You make compromises to make the highest boost, I went in the direction of lower boost which meant lower spring pressures in the actuator and DV, both resulted in manageable control of surge (Driving style and using closed loop boost control capable in the UTEC regulated the rest) From a power standpoint, the 20G-8 and 20G-9 are BOTH capable of similar results, the 9 with the bigger diffuser gave what you would consider a "Surge area" which reduced the symptoms of surging. In reality using a high spring rate actuator, and very high spring pressure in the DV would result in surging at part throttle higher loads on nearly ANY turbo, not just the 20G-8.. The trick for me was to be able to regulate it through boost control and carefully balanced DV adjustment.

Ah, the infamous 7lO cap!

That's awesome. Looks like I'll have to drive out to one of the LI meets after you get this together.

This is nothing new, there are a few cars out there with this combination (using a stock type turbo) However many were disappointed with the "Dyno-Queen bragging rites" where I was looking at producing over 400lbft of torque very early on, and maintaining that as linearly as possible..... I don't care much for HP numbers or peak numbers, I'm looking for the "Street warrior" combination which is to hit hard, fast, and quick, and not lose its breath..

Tuning is the key to getting this combination to feel right in most circumstances, therefore the blowthrough MAF and UTEC are very important, getting good consistent MAF readings at any load level and RPM, and adjustability are key. Of course the ability to change maps means I can make the car appear to be ***** out when not actually running the car all out until I switch to it.

That is about the setup I will eventually go with, although I will definately leave the balance shafts in...

I would normally agree with that.. But the block had a damaged balance shaft and bearing, and I decided it would be cheaper to press in a sleeve for the eliminator kit than try to retain it with new parts. Makes more sense to spend that money elsewhere.

THanks for all the kind words folks.

There's alot going on.. But lets say its very exciting and I'm just waiting for some of my invoiced work to get paid so I can finish it up.. And some additional goodies to show.. I'll update the thread in a week or so..

I have "choices" now depending on the program I want to run, now with the ability to reflash my ECU it makes things even more interesting and easier to deal with.

The engine will be done shortly, I decided to make some changes (Again) to the turbo combination I'm using, but I'm looking at about a month to 60 days since I waiting on some more parts.
