turboXS HPMBC

anyone using these? i had this on my old 05 WRX with the turboXS utec and it was a great combo. i couldnt use it without the utec but the car is long gone but i still have the MBC. i was thinking of installing this on the evo once my break-in miles are done. i know on the 05 WRX's, the stock ECU had issues with the MBC so no one could use them. i have done a search and it doesnt seem to be an issue with the mitsu 2.0 motor. i would like to use this MBC on my evo but i dont know what you guys think of it? what would be a recommended boost level to set for with a fully stock setup? i was aiming for 19psi stock (walking it up slowly) on 92 octane gas. i know from what i read on searches, this engine can take more than that. i see the stock ecu will do a cut off at 25psi but the engine/turbo can do up to 29psi? this is for my evo 9.

i dont want to goof up anything with this seeing i am still searching and learning the engine. any info will be appreciated! thanks!

I also had the same MBC on a WRX and in conjunction with a UTEC but actually it gave me problems very soon. I ended buying a GFB MBC.

When I was getting my WRX tune by AZscoobie(Clark) on June 06 04 at Dyno-comp in Phoenix the Turbo XS MBC was giving me crazy fluctuations of boost. I am glad I took my spare MBC(GFB) with me just in case. We switched MBC and the car run fine.

I highly suggest you get a Hallman or a forged Unos MBC instead. With the Turbo xs you still need an allen wrench to make adjustments but with the Forged or Hallman you don't. Quality wises the Unos and Hallman are also better and bigger.

I highly recommend AGAINST the TurboXS MBC. Like Carlos said, I suggest the Forge UNOS or Hallman Pro, both of which I'ved used with great success.

ok ill keep those in recommendation. how high of boost can i run those MBC's on a stock setup? i am a rather safe person and prefer not to be wreckless and blow my evo to kingdom come! my first mod will be a boost gauge as always

Ok, here we go. <10 seconds of saying a bunch of negative things in my head and talking about searching>

The MBC you use has nothing to with the amount of boost you can run. The amount of boost you can run is always dependent upon the octane and at certain levels it is dependent upon your airflow restrictions and fuel delivery capability. If your car is 100% stock, and you want to add an MBC, then you basically will not be raising the boost, because it's already 20psi from the factory. However, the MBC will remove a lot of the stock boost taper that is present when the ECU is controlling boost.

There are other boost levels you can run safely on pump gas with additional mods and even higher boost levels with race gas or alky.

On a stock set up you mostlikely eliminate the boost taper when using the MBC. You will probably see better spool up time and off course your boost will be stronger.

As far is how much boost you can run, Warrtalon already mentioned that it will depend on a couple of other variables (altitude, type of gas, etc)

A Forge UNOS MBC is a great product, I have it on my Evo 9 and it is high quality and easy to operate, needless to say it has a comfortable knob for adjustments that does not requires special tools to make adjustments. Also the price is awsome as well(cheaper than a Turbo XS one)

yeah i know the boost comes on quicker. i remember that from my WRX. i would set it for 16psi and it would hit 16psi extremely quick.

maybe i worded my question wrong...how much boost can the stock engine take safely?

I answered that - it depends on octane. There are people running 25, 30, 35psi with the stock turbo. Safety depends on the octane, AFRs, and timing. High boost also requires head studs to keep the head from lifting. I don't think you need to be concerned with the max possible boost, though.
