I recommend the Exedy Twin HD. It's expensive, but it includes a chromoly flywheel and will take anything you can give it. The ACT 6-puck is very harsh, but it does work well. I haven't heard of many people using it, but I do know one guy locally who does 7k rpm clutch dumps on it all the dump while running 11.7s @ 117mph. He's a nut, but his clutch holds.

So, did my response to the other thread help? At the time, you didn't mention your clutch slipping, but now you mention it as if you knew all along. Was the other problem unrelated or was this the problem?

Coming from a MR stock clutch which me and Warrtalon ran them to the bone I can tell you ahead of time that the Exedy will change completly the feeling of the clutch pedal. Forget about smooothness but welcome to the hardcore.

The clutch Warrtalon is refering too is what I have and what a lot of people recommended. If you are willing to sacrifice comfort for reliability then perhaps this is the clutch.

No, I've never even heard of it. I recommend sticking with clutches that are well-known and used quite often on Evos with great success.

I couldn't agree any better to that, I tried to buy parts/upgrades that are well known to last and are well tested by other Evo owners. Exedy is perhaps a Giant on this industry...

Is there a happy medium (comfort and durability/reliability) for those of us who can count our 6k RPM clutch drops on one hand but put a lot of miles on the car? Sorry for the hijack but I'm going to be in the same boat shortly. I have an '05 RS with about 300whp and 24k miles.

Yeah, in that case, you can do a single disk, especially if you're never going to race.

No matter what Way you look at it There is some highs and lows. I personally like a smooth clutch because I drive the Evo everyday but there is always a compromise.

Per instance, like you just said, you don't really need a double disc clutch if you don't have the power for it, perhaps with basic mods the stock clutch does the job fine without loosing comfort or performance.

I heard that the Tilton hydraulic clutch system enhances the pedal feeling and that is a plus. If you are planning on having mild mods I would then suggest a step up stage I clutch from any major manufacturer like ACT street, Exedy single Disc, HKS single etc.

I had not much choice, I know that a Evo 8 MR stock clutch for my car can't do the job for a long time due to my Torque numbers.

Buy your clutch based on your power application first.

get the Exedy Twin or ACT HDSS, either one will do the job.

it's not the clutch that is the problem. there are a ton of people with a lot of miles on the stock clutch myself included.

Sorry, man, but saying you launch at 3k means you slip the hell out of it. This is what prematurely kills the clutch. Just launching at high rpm isn't the only thing that wears out the clutch. Many people have worn out their clutch this early, but with proper driving, it is capable of lasing up to 95k miles as proven by RedCloud.

It is highly likely that they will determine that your driving was the cause for the clutch failure, so if you let them take it apart and look, then you'll end up paying the full Mitsu clutch installation price, which is probably 10 hours of labor at $100 an hour.

I'm not trying to be mean, but if you drive an Evo and have to worry about your Dad being mad, then suffice it to say you probably shouldn't be driving an Evo in the first place. It is a high-powered, high-maintenance, race car right off the showroom floor. It should only be owned by those capable of maintaining it 100% on their own without any supervision, imo.
