SPEC clutches really this bad????

My story....

i had a SPEC stage 5 clutch in with the stock tranny, its an unsprung clutch, i was driving like 55-60 and downshifted from 5th to 4th, and the clutch locked up and shattered my bell housing and deystoryed the tranny....after about a month or so on the phone with SPEC they finnaly covered a brand new trans and sent me a new clutch, i didnt want a new clutch and wanted my money back for that too but they wouldnt do that....so with the money, i bought a brand new Sheperd Race tranny, put that in with the new SPEC stage 5 clutch....i have been having these horrible squeeling, shuttering and drivability issues and i thought it was from still using the stock flywheel so i bought an ACT streetlite flywheel....so we tear the car apart today too see that the factory flywheel is in perfect condition and i was told by SPEC the reason for the horrible squeels and shuttering were from the flywheel.....i have no idea what to do other than get my money back again for the clutch but i know they will not do that....the new clutch was never launched, drag raced or anything yet this year....could the clutch realy be that bad of a unit and make these sounds and to where my car shakes horribly sometimes rolling into first gear from a stop and reverse....i also get a lot of clutch smell when i get this shuttering.....the tranny is in perfect condition only about 5000 miles old and the rest of the car has no issues....the sounds this clutch makes you can hear from easily 100 or so yards away and CAN NOT be an ordinary downfall from buying an unsrpung clutch...any feedback or info would be great..any advice??? thanks....

thats what i was thinking about its just hard to think that ive spent so much time and money with this company and working on this car and to have nothing to show for in the end, i work very hard for my money and its tough just taking the loss and not letting the source of the problem take responsibilty....ive never filed a law suit on anyone in my life and dont try to take peoples money but this just seems wrong....does anyone know anything about this company and if people have had this problme??

i put the act streetlite flywheel and act 6puck clutch in and i get a weak squeeling every now and then...since then i have torn it apart 4 times to check weekly to make sure everything is fine....and everything is....flywheel is smooth sailinga nd the clutch disc is great.....i'm assuming it's just a "gremmlin" noise that annoys teh crap out of me. I DO NOT get any shuttering though.

my squeeking and squeeling is something im sure few people have ever encountered, i get looks from acorss the street and from over a block away, it is so loud and a squeeling of such a horrible metal on metal sound its horrific, you would swear the car is going to fall apart if you heard and felt what its like going into first from a stop or reverse, i will work on getting a video....

I highly doubt the flywheel is making the noise. Is the noise like the one mentioned in this post below from a tilton thread?

If so, it is because of the friction material. There is no fixing it but the noise shouldn't cause any problems.

You just installed another FW, and kept the same clutch (the 2nd stg5)?
...if so I would say there was an installation problem, or the previous stock FW was warped somehow...
I have the spec sgt3+ with over 7500 miles and it’s great, i do get a little shutter when leaving 1st, but nothing more than the stock setup.

I have a Spec stage 2 clutch on my Camry...because it was cheap. I would not put a Spec clutch on my Evo. In fact, I have an ACT on mine.

my thoughts on spec.

we had a small sponsorship with them for our evo and sti project cars...

evo mr-

first we get the clutch install it... go to start the car... wont go in or out of gear... take it back apart.... send it to them... with our stock clutch

"oh the MR clutch may be slightly different"

turns out the center disc spline section was wrong.... bad clearance issue...

they send me another.... dont send my stock one back... then tell me they threw it away.... and are going to replace the stock one.

so... put the new clutch back in... as we are installing it we notice the splines are a bit different shaped then the stocker... and the clutch can be moved side to side a little... but hey.... so we put it back together.

lots of chatter... sprung hub stage 3 +... (no chatter in the sti) thinking maybe because of some slight burrs from the first mess up on their part.

driving it one night, shift normal, a little quick (keep in mind im a professional road racer... but im not abusive... i dont like breaking ****)... pedal sticks to the floor....

slave cylinder rod is hanging out... look through the inspection hole, and the clip is ripped clear out of the pressure plate. I call... they say send it to them. Im trying to get it fixed quick... so i pay 65 for two day shipping...

they get it "we will replace the clip and fix it for 100 bucks".... i just want it fixed so i say fine "but im getting a little uncomfortable with the screw ups".

get it back.... (oh yeah...finally get a new stocker back, 3 months later) and install it... driving it tonight...one shift from 3rd to 4th... pedal sticks to the floor.

broke the clip again.

What if this was a customer car? i would have had to eat the labor on three clutch installs at 700 bucks each?!?!?!?

im going to call tomorrow.. I want to be reimbursed for my time for one install... thats it. and to cover my labor. If it doesnt happen, ill file a suit.

anyway

I would steer clear. Now im stuck about 2 weeks from show season, and i need a new clutch solution for the MR. its a shame the tilton doesnt fit.

cheers

wow, a few of my buddies with 600+ hp mustangs run SPEC clutches without a problem. their shop actually reccomends them to customers(all mustang shop), but maybe different for evos.
