I have always asked this question which seems more than obvious... if my car has a tiny lean spot (Not enough to come close to cutting power) I wont floor it again until I fix it but I guess maybe thats why I havent built my motor yet... I guess whenever I want a new one I got a great way to ensure it gets done... blow this one up.
I really wasnt sure what I saw or what happened. Its not like it was happening all the time. Something felt wrong as I pulled onto the highway and I did take my foot off the gas. I needed to accelerate again as I was in the fast lane, plus I wanted to see what the gauges would say so I hit the gas again. If thought the motor would let go I most likely would not have done it....
Dont forget I had a rocker arm that come off the lash adjuster as well...I posted pics of that a while back. The damage had been done. Its not like Stew's engine where the rods went thru the block. I have no damage to crank that I know of. I am still going to replace the main bearings due to the severity of the detonation regardless.
Wait until it happens to you and see how you react in the situation. Then defend yourself on here as people make these comments. I posted all the info/pics and the sequence of events that led to this to help enlighten others, not to get flamed. I didnt want to blow my motor...but it happened. Its all part of modding and having a high-strung turbo-charged car. Dont kid yourself that it wont happen. ALL MOTORS will give up at some point. Its a learning curve for me as well with this car as it is my first turbo vehicle. Next time I may know better. Who is to say?
