Having a boost Problem give me a hand please =(
Having a boost Problem give me a hand please =(
OK this may be a bit long i appologize.
First i will start with the cars mods.
------------------------------------------------
2003 Evo 8 GSR
Performance
AMS FMIC
Megan O2 Housing
Megan 3" Downpipe
Megan 3" Cat Delete
Air Box replaced with Cone filter
(HAD) Hallman MBC
Others
Defi D boost gauge
Autometer A/F gauge
Greddy TT
--------------------------------------------------
Ok now the problem.
Car had every mod listed above. MINUS the Intake. i could not run over 20 psi. without hitting fuel cut, with the MBC. i do live in ohio its cold. figured that was why. anyway. i decided to replace my Air box with the cone filter kit. installed fine.
I took the car out for a drive and hit fuel cut on a warmer then normal day. Cut at 18 psi !!! took car home..... scratched head. I have had others tell me they dont like my hallman blah blah. so just to take out a variable i decide to uninstall it. stock boost is fine for me i guess.
So i uninstall the MBC and replace all the relevent boost lines with NEW hose. I will now tell you how i hooked them up just to be sure
I Connected the intake line to the top Nipple of the actuator.
then i Connected the Wastegate and turbo nipples together and made a T fitting in that line which i connected to the bottom nipple of the actuator.
Since the MBC was connected in between the BOV and Intake manifold i replaced that line aswell.
I checked all my lines ... all tight all clamped even had a buddie double and triple check everything.
I start up the car And i only boost 12 psi..... or what some call stock Boost..... =/
I have reset the battery 3 - 4 times and still no luck. not sure what the deal is.
did my actuator fall asleep ? im really confused. Please help !
Thanks in advance
Ryan

Simple, man, you didn't re-use the stock vaccuum lines. You can't just use random hoses to run stock boost. YOu have to use the EXACT STOCK OEM MITSU boost lines, because they have restrictor pills in them (2). You are seeing base wastegate pressure like every other person who made the same mistake. Believe me, it's very very common.
Also, your Hallman is fine. Re-install the MBC, re-install the stock intake, then get flashed. The End.
YOu have all those mods (whoa, an FMIC without a tune????) and no tuning, so of course you're hitting fuel cut. Way too much air is flowing for the stock ECU to handle without a tune. Get a Dynoflash mail-in for $199, and call it a day, or head up to Buschur Racing when Al is there later this month and get a custom tune.

Dude, seriously. I'm not talking out of my ***. I'm telling you _EXACTLY_ what the problem is. The stock lines DO have pills in them. If yours don't, then they either aren't the REAL stock OEM lines or they fell out. There's one in the long hose going from the tee to the BCS, and then another in the short hose going to the turbo nipple. The short hose going to the WGA nipple has a red-painted edge, so you know which one goes to the WGA and which one to the turbo outlet.
It has restrictor pills, I already told you that. these are used to regulate the boost to the exact stock specifications while utilizing the stock boost control solenoid. Without them, you run stock wastegate pressure. This is really common knowledge on the Evo, or at least to those who frequent EvoM. It's not something I made up. Hell, you can buy the exact stock lines as a kit for $14.54 at Mitsubishiparts.net. I just ordered a set myself, because I tore the hose that goes to the turbo nipple (has a restrictor pill), and I want to have a stock set as backup in case of emergency.
OK i found this pill in what i have left of my stock boost line... Theoreticly can i stick this pill in the line that runs from the turbo nipple to the T and fix my problem? just looking for a quick fix

No, it doesn't quite work that way, but you can try. I also said there are 2 pills, not one...
Your quick fix is to re-install the MBC and remove that intake. Then, send your ECU in to Dynoflash for $199. It will get there tomorrow, he will flash it, then send it back overnight for you to install Thursday and never have fuel cut, but also have tons more power to match your strange combo of mods.

Well damned if it dint work..... i replaced the pill in the line from the Turbo to the T fitting and took her down the road... boosted 12psi again... turned around gave her some gas and she shot up to 19psi ! =) then my guage pod fell off... damn plastic fasteners... lol
Thanks for the quick response guys im going to order a new set of hoses asap.

Im one of those Poor evo owners... im young but i have my dream car =)
If your short on cash, then sell the SAFC and get a mail-in Dynoflash for $199. Simple as that. You don't need the SAFC, because then you'll have to spend more money on a datalogger and wideband o2.
You will probably still hit fuel cut on stock boost because of that intake, the FMIC, and the exhaust. I say this because the exhaust lessens backpressure, which causes the boost to increase higher than stock when still using the stock boost system. YOu will probably shoot higher than 20psi and still hit fuel cut.
