Stumped by screeching noise under load

Brief History: 2003, 40K - driven pretty easily, I get on it every so often.
Car has always been great. But recently a lot of repair had to be done because of an accident (not my fault, I was just sitting there and got hit from the side),
so I haven't checked out ll the IC connections myself yet.

IC, pipes, and down pipe were removed for the repairs. New IC put on by the shop as well.

I am now hearing a screeching noise that comes on towards the top of spool up. It's slightly metallic - not sure but it doesn't seem to go up and down in pitch, at least very much.

While I wait till I can get with the DealerShip mechanic who is doing the rear diff.
... can anyone experienced it turbos and their failure comment on what I might be hearing?

Any chance it might be a compressor side leak in the lower IC piping?

Thanks for any input.

What gear and how often does it happen? Does your car make a strange decel noise when coming to a stop? Does it lose power when it happens?

Have only tried it in lower gears 1-2-3 . No decel noise - deffinitely connected with acceleration, only lasts as long as there is increased load. I can spool up with out it, until higher boost starts to build (may or may not be tied directly to it)

no noticeable power loss

Does it make the same noise as a bad fan belt?

regarding the fan belt noise possibility

not really, but I can't rule that out. It doesn't sound what I normally associate a fan belt with. But the tranny was out of the car along with the steering and front diff, so if he had to remove or just move anything like the generator or AC - that's a possibility.

I'll go out and listen again, but right now I'm going to say it's a little too high

Decel when it's in or out of gear?

Its kind of weird it only happens at random times and it can happen either way in or out of gear.

Out of gear rolling to a stop in N. I am just asking because I had a very high pitched noise at full acceleration (Like a bad Fan Belt) and also a noise at decel right before my transfercase went out. Did you check what type of fluid they used in your TC? It could also be a leak in your IC piping or even your FMIC. Take it to the dealer if you can. You maybe able to get it fixed since you just got in an accident.

You most likely have a TC that is on its way out. You might want to pull the plug and check for shavings. This is what mine sounded like before it went.

Yeah exactly i was hoping someone would have some good news and not say the tc. I had recently changed the tc fluid about 2 months ago with diaqueen.

Trust me I know how you feel. I had to replace two of them. If you can take it to the dealer and have them take a look. If it is bad do not have them replace it. Order a TC from Sheppard or TRE. Much cheaper and will last.

I dont think the dealer would be happy with the mods on my car. and when my clutch went out i had them replace it with a act and fidanza fly wheel. Needless to say it was a huge fight and they basically told me that my waranty was void after the clutch install.

We may have crossed posts here, Sorry, I was asking the other poster if his was in or out.

Mine is strictly in gear , under load

The mech just checked the TC and said the fluid was clean as could be (He had changed it about 3 or 4k previously)

Can a boost leak give off a high metalic sound? like the noise of the spool up "leaking" out unmuffled as it otherwise is when the system is sealed?

(I may try to record it and post it tomorrow. I'm going to go out in a few minutes to pick someone up from work, so I'll listen some more.)

Boost leaks normally sound like a loud whistle, that is if you can hear them at all. Easiest way to tell is make a boost leak tester and pressurize and see if you hear the same sound.
