Turbo upgrade?

Can't i just simply buy a bigger turbo to make more power instead of buying a whole kit? Thats one of the reasons i want an evo is so that i can get a car thats already Forced inducted? I see alot of kits out there and want to know if i can simply swap out the turbo?

Thanks,

you're going to have limited choices, if you want crazy top end (35R) then your going to have to get the kit.

No ****, but I don't think he was talking about turbos like this, becuase he mentioned the fact that he was looking at "kits" and all kits that most tuners offer are not based off of 16g turbos, because they use the stock manifold, and well, dont provide that much of a gain.

To the started of the thread what sort of power/tq/spool were you looking for? Also how much are you looking to spend total, changing your turbo to a larger unit is much more complicated then just swapping them out.

so, your saying the 20g-8 and 20g-9 dont provide that much of a gain? he asked if he could simply bolt on a "bigger" turbo and so i gave him the answer, YES u can(attention to detail). u just simply told him NO, kit=manifold and thats not the case. how do u know if he was talking 35r, 42r, 20g-9? guess ur a mind reader.

I guess I assumed too much, just when he stated that he was looking at "kits" it made it appear to me that he was talking about non 16G based turbos. To be honest, unless you feel like running lots of boost on a 16G based turbo, the only way to make big power 400whp+ is with an upgraded manifold and turbo, via a 20g, 50trim, or 30R of some flavor, and yes I think the 20g-8 and 20g-9 are a waste of money, if your going to change your turbo, and are willing to lose some spool its stupid not to move to something bigger imho.
