I highly doubt it less restriction would cause knock.

That being said I think there are more gains to be had by removing the weight of the stock piping and avoiding the noise the would be directly under the cabin. I cannot imagine road racing with an open downpipe under my feet.

The best exhaust on a turbo car is no exhaust. The exhaust pulses are nulled after the turbine wheel so their is no scavenging effect. Perhaps the placement of your customers cutout wasn't ideal. Mine is 6" after the O2 housing and facing the pavement (a straight shot). The exhaust to the rear of the car enters at a 90 degree angle to this tube. I also benefit from a low pressure area developing under the cutout while the car is at speed due to its deliberate placement. Because people are using it wrong doesen't make it a bad product.
