More Power EVO exhaust
More Power EVO exhaust
I have just changed over to EVO’s from Skylines and would like some advice on exhaust’s. I have spoken to a Guy in Queensland who has made custom systems for me in the past and this is what he has come up with for an EVO 8 MR. I don’t like the rear section, the bends and muffler but the front section is what I would expect to produce strong power gains. I have not seen any systems like this on the web?? All the systems I have seen retain the small (short) o2 housing, any comments??

There's tons of exhaust systems around that show good results.
One vendor that comes into mind is Buschur http://www.buschurracing.com/
Buschur is known for making good power. Of course they are the only one that I've seen time and time again put themselves out there and prove themselves with evolving products and supporting results/data.
Either way, if you're anything like me, you'll always wonder if there was something better you could've bought.

Yep, there are lots out there all talking it up but they all seem to retain a similar design with the turbo exit. This is the closest I can get to a screamer pipe but with a reasonable DB level. As for BR...... I am spending about $10k hard earned AU dollars with them

What is the diameter of the downpipe in your pic? Not the wg merge pipe, just the main section of downpipe tubing from the turbo outlet flange to the flex section. To me it looks to be less than 3", as if, the too long merge pipe doesnt allow for a full 3" diameter downpipe.
Instead of paying mega bucks for an unproven, one-off piece, you might be better off saving your money and purchasing a tried and true, economically priced combo, such as the EBay O2 housing(15 WHP @ $70) and a Megan or BR downpipe...all for a bit over $200 (U.S.) and dyno proven to increase...... not decrease horsepower.
The full BR TBE with an Ebay housing and his bullet muffler are dyno-proven to deliver about as much power as can be extracted from an Evo full exhaust system. Do it right the first time. No need to spend too much of your $10K on an exhaust.
However, since you say you'll be spending most of your time on the track, then don't worry about the catback part of your exhaust. Instead, have your welder make you a dumptube/testpipe combo(a shortie dump that Y's off the bolt-in test pipe and has a 3-bolt block-off plate), this way you can just uncork it when you get to the track.
