I need help Please, no fire!

Alright, here is the story:

Background - Evo IX... Exhaust cam and gear... With stock timing cover...

Story:
Just got the HKS Hi-power catback and the rest of my 3" dnpipe and tstpipe on.
"Hey, I think I hear my cam gear rubbin' on the cover, let's try and put one more washer there." Well my buddy dropped the washer into the timing area... you know.. down there... 2 of them at that.. (edit)Oh... the engine was turned once. That killed me right there, less than a second.(edit)

We spent a little while, after looking at diagrams, finding the washers. We did, we got them out... had a funny, consistant plucking sound... turns out a part of the material was petruding and was being plucked by the belt.

Another thing, the Exhaust gear jumped 1 tooth SDRAWKCAB... that's right! Valves seem to be sealing properly, we can't hear ANY touching even with the valve cover off watching it as we crank it by hand. We shot some air into the cylinder, it's air tight in all of them.

Everything is backtogether, plugs in, belts on... timing DEAD on... Go to crank... it spins and spins and spins... no fire!? What!? EVERYTHING IS IN! Oh, and apparently there is an exciter doohickie that's damaged... it turns, but i guess it has a little of a wobble to it...

Question:
Is there a crank sensor on the Evo IX? Or any other sensor besides the intake and exhaust cam sensors? Does anyone know if there is anything that could be TRIPPED to cause my car not to fire... maybe not only tripped, but damaged.

Fact:
Warranty is out of the question.

just a thought

any chance the spark plug wire boots aren't sealed all the way down on the plugs?

Edit: Also, could the Cam angle sensor be out of sync? on the VIII there is a notch on it to keep you honest, but I've heard of a few guys getting it 180 deg out of kilter.

When we put them on, we really only had 1 that made the POP sound... umm, i'm pretty sure, but even b4 we messed with the timing, it would only turn, that's what lead us to taking the valve cover off...

So think of it this way, it turned with no fire b4 we checked the valves, and it doesn't fire again. But i'll check that, JUST in case. Oh, and does anyone know if the rpm's go up during crank? Just disconnected your injectors and plugs and run it w/o fire and see if it shows RPMS, I need to know if the car doesn't know where the engine is timing wise.

I tried to edit in the following but you beat me to the punch, so here it is just incase you don't notice it in the first post.

I'm sorry if I'm not following your description of the steps you have taken, it sounds like you had the issue before you got this far .... but for what it's worth:

Could the Cam angle sensor be out of sync? on the VIII there is a notch on it to keep you honest (don't know about the IX), but I've heard of a few guys getting it 180 deg out of kilter.

Good luck

Told mah damn friend to check it, but he was like, no way it cut loose... So, since there is sunlight till 11pm here in AK, i'm gonna bug him, b/c i want my baby runnin'!

Thanks nirvevo for the suggestions, it's greatly appreciated!

I re read your 1st post. At first I thought that you also put the cam and gear in at the same time. I see your point.

But even if it was off by 1 tooth it should atleast cough and sputter. Seems like I recall a few guys discovering being off 1 tooth because their VIII wouldn't run right after a cam install. Maybe the MIVEC makes the result more drastic.

I wish I could help, I have a 6 AM appointment with work tomorrow so I'm signing off.

You might just need to get a fresh look at things tomorrow.

I hope it all works out simply for you.

Good Luck

You guys could have damaged the Crank angle sensor if that washer you dropped hit it while you were cranking it.
I'm pretty sure the 9 has a CrankPS.
