heat wrap UIP

Would wrapping the UIP with something like an reflective insulator do anything for the intake temps and keeping that pipe cooler?

i think i will go ahead and wrap it and find out. my main thing was i didnt want to keep the pipe even hotter. i am also going to route some duct from the front air dam up near the intake, i have a buschur, so as to get some cooler air in the engine bay. thanks for the replies

Be careful doing this. Make sure that you route it in a way that water will not be blown right onto the filter. When you do this, the first time it rains, after pulling into your garage or whatever, pop the hood and see if the area is soaked. If it is, I would recommend re-routing or coming up with a way to correct the water problem.

it wouldn't hurt, but you're adding weight and if you have al pipes then you got the al for the 1 pound that they save over ss... i mean really... who cares.

i'm a nit picker and i wouldn't do it.

thin wall tubing is better for insulation. and yes you would absorb heat through the upper ic pipe. but it wouldn't be horrible. there is some but it's not gonna make any difference. you tune with a safety margin and that margin wil lnot be breached by upper intercooler pipe heat absorbtion.

You generally wrap hot items with heatwrap, like headers, to prevent heat from making it out. Theres really nothing that hot around the upper pipe. If anything wrap your dp, thats common, but the intake pipe probably wont make any kind of a difference. Wont hurt, but use the wrap for something that needs it, like the dp.

Wrapping the UICP on the cold side makes enough of a difference that all the 04 7.3 TD motors are wrapped from the factory. Anything you can do to keep the air colder will help, and if you are able to protect the chilled air from the underhood temps it should definately benifit.
