Need help with Boost and EGT readings on a IX...

Went on a long road trip this weekend. I wanted to check with you guys if the readings I was getting were safe…

CAR: EVO IX w/t 4+k miles (please look at my signature for my mods)

BOOST: At 4-5-6th gears, pedal to the metal at around 3.5k RPM, Defi boost gauge reads spikes to 1.8 bar (26psi) spike for a slit second after which the boost pressure settles down to 1.55 bars (22.5 psi) and drops down as the revs rise.

EGT: Maximum EGT reads 875C (temperature sensor is hooked up to the turbo outlet).

TIA

bump for an answer

I have read all the treads that contained EGT on the subject, but I still want to get a reply on my readings as each case is different...

I see those EGTs before the turbo. It is running a little warm but I dont know how much cooler normally behind the turbo is.

I run ~900F at idle in the 4th runner.

Fahrenheit

(Also edited the above post to show that.)

Don't hold me to it, but while we're on the topic. 900 degree Celsius = 1652 degree Fahrenheit = total melt down.

875 C post turbo is way too hot. The gauge must be wrong, or you would have grenaded your motor by now. That would be about the upper limit on temperature before the turbo and your tuning would have to be dead on. I've never done a back to back comparison, but everything I've read says you lose close to 150 C across the turbo, but it will be application dependent.

to clarify a few things

I double checked the maximum temperatures I was seing and it was 850C (1560F) post turbo at the turbo outlet before the o2 housing. I know that this is to hot, but this is not the temperature I see in normal driving. In city driving, my temps hower around 300-400C (around 600-750F). The maximum temperature I have seen happened on a 500mile road trip where the car was being driven mostly between 100-130 mph constantly.

I am going to have a visit to my mapper and we will try to replicate the maximum temperatures by driving the **** out of the car. My goal is to lower the maximum temperature (4-5-6th gear steady state / partial t. / wot) to be less than 800C (1470F) post turbo

Let me know if you think 800C is still too high. I know my friend who has a stock IX sees maximum temperatures of 750-800C post turbo, so I am taking this as a referance point...

the problem is you're on a 9 and the 9 has revised coolant passages and what not so we can't be sure what to tell you. they might run hotter but with plenty of cooling. the only way you'd know is coolant temps. i'm sure even the oil temps wouldn't be helpful in this case.

it's just a pretty sure thing though that aluminum melts at egts above 900c

caveat is that if you're running very rich with timing retard because of some slight knocking then your ignition will ignite the fuel as the exhaust valve opens and the flame front will go further into the exhaust and this could simulate hotter combustion. however you're testing temps from the o2 housing. so i'm just gonna offer up these speculations.
