just wonder what are the benefit from the two? i'm in the market for one, inside the car and under the hood) and don't know which to decide. i'm thinking the metal ones are going to make shifting much stiffer because there's less give. i'm also wondering, from the other thread, as to why some of the metal ones are seizing up (the under the hood ones...maybe because the change in temperature which is causing the metal to exand?) and making the shifter harder to shift? anyone else using the metal ones having the same problems? what brands were there (so maybe i can avoid the same problems). and info would be helpful.

I prefer the metal bushings. I don't believe in having any "give" or compression in these bushings. By having softer bushings, you can allow some (VERY slight, almost not even noticeable) delay in the engagement of a given gear as the bushing flex when force is exerted on them.
Having solid bushings means no play/flex, so the gear engages exactly when it is supposed to.
Don't think of shifter bushings in the same context as motor mount bushings. Solid motor mount bushings will rattle your teeth out, but they completely eliminate ALL motor movement. This is where flexible bushings are need to maintain a level of comfort.
Solid shifter bushings have no negatives. Just even more precise gear engagement.
(BTW, I have Bushur underhood bushings and Lancershop.com brass shifter base bushings.)

I installed the Authorty 5 pc. Short Shifter Combo (Used to be available from lancershop.com) yesterday.

I greased up EVERTYTHING when installing. Even the brass bushings under the hood. All I can say is wow. Throws are shorter and very direct. I love the way it feels so much better than before. Takes a little more effort with throws but I think it is suppose to.
Best damn 100 bucks I have ever spent on my evo....next is gonna be some stiffer motor mounts.
Also, the counterweight shift knob is pretty kool that comes with it. Nice and shiney

so i decided to get the 5 piece authority short shifter from AMS tuning. 109 is not bad considering B&M, Perrin, etc... were 130+ for just the short shifter alone. i also heard the Authority shifter isn't bad at all and the best bang for the bucks deal. i just hope the bushings are good http://www.amstuning.com/shop/cart.p...ct_detail&p=87.
i got a stainless steel clutch line and took the restrictor off so i hope all of these things will make shifting short and crisp.

i have the buschur racing aluminum bushings in combination with a B&M short shifter.
i highly recomend them. it really improves shifter feel and i never have any problems getting into second gear now.
they've been in for several months now, been to the drag strip a couple times with them and have no problems with them seizing or making the shifts hard when the engine heats up.
