*Please help* Loud whining sound from the rear

I have a loud whining sound coming from the back of my car. It only happens in 4th and 5th when i let of the gas, it gets much louder in 5th. As soon as i step on the gas it goes away. Could it be the drive shaft or axle? It whines from the rear and is not in the front. Oh and it not a normal whine cause it just started happening and is LOUD. It only happens in between 18 and 4000 RPM in those two gears. PLEASE HELP!!!!

THANKS.

First; STop driving the car.

Second; Call the dealer and have them tow it.

I would assume that if it is in deed comming from the rear;

1 you have a faulty rear diff
2 you have low fluid in the rear diff
3 you have somehow broken something in the rear diff.

I would change the fluid and see if that helps. Only use the Diaqueen LSD fluid.

They should not be able to void the warrewnty unless they can directly attribute the failure to something that you have installed. and a rear diff isnt something they can deny warranty for by having a boost controller and a tbe; you would more than likely blow your motor before you blew the rear diff unless you are just beating the crap out of the car.

i only use Diaqueen LSD FLUID, and checked the level and it was good. I feel like if it was the rear dif wouldnt it clunk more then whine and why would it only happen in two gears when i let off the gas?!?! Thanks for your help though ill most likely get it towed to the dealership.

More than likely it is not your rear diff and it is something in either your center diff, TC or your tranny.

yeah, i really hope not! I was rally hoping sombody would tell me a quick fix, but guess not. The sound is def. coming form the rear though and it doesnt sound like a tc moan/whine. Its gettin me so mad that i dont know what it is. I only have 15k on the car.

sounds can feel like they are coming from crazy places and turn out to be from the least expected place.

Go to dealer, dont play backyard mechanic on this one, might be a safety issue.
