2.3 stroker EVOs, what's your redline?
I have a new 2.3 stroker and GT35R and this thing is so powerful and fun I can't stop flooring it. It hits 7000 RPMs so fast now that I find myself over 7500 unless I'm careful.
I've heard a lot of debate over what the safe rev limit is for a 2.3--I have Crower springs so valve float isn't an issue.
I guess I want to know if it's safe to regularly play between 7500 and 7900--am I safe topping out at 8000 or should I make 7500 the max and set the limiter at 7600? I now have my UTEC rev limiter set at 8000 but I've never hit it.
I have a 4G64 crank, billet Crower rods and Wiseco pistons.

I've got the similar setup and I'm revving it to 7800rpm as max limit but consistently hitting 8000 rpm. THe thing revs up too fast. Crower springs float at exactly 9000 rpm so you'll be fine. It is recommended that we dun go over 7500 rpm though...

If you can furnish a dyno plot, I can calculate your optimum shift points. With those in hand, I'd recommend keeping a tight lid on it and spinning it no further than necessary.

Ted B, out of curiosity, could you explain how you find optimum shift points in non Guru terms if possible? Do you look for/try to shift depending on where the RPM's fall after the shift, or is it where you are on the tach before the shift? My car in particular makes peak tq at 3900 rpms and then obviously tapers from there.....

8500 would be the safe thats will a ported head with upgraded springs. You can bring it higher but your running the risk of brakeing something in the long run. There is a guy in florida i forgot his name he ran a 2.3L and beating the crap out of it and went though 3 motors before going back to a 2.0L. I dont recall what rpm he would shift at but it was higher the 8200 if i recall.

No one knows how high one can rev it before it actually throws a rod through the block. That is of interest where a drag racing engine is concerned, but that isn't the real issue here.
The issue here (and with any long stroke street engine) is doing one's best to ensure that it doesn't wear out any faster than necessary due to excessive piston speed.

How does porting the head have any effect on its safety to rev high? You would really do evom a great justice if you were to stop posting.....

Im shifting at around 8000 with stock springs and retainers, when i got my car back from AMS they said sometimes you can rev out to 8500 but not on a daily basis. It might just depend on who built the motor, there are many different opinions out there from many different tuners. I have never gone past 8k yet but i probably will when race gas and 30 psi comes around on the strip...
