ignition problems anyone?

well today for some reason as i was getting into my car, i put the key in and went to turn it, and for about 5 to 10 mins i was trying to get it to start up. i thought that was very weird then as i got out of the car to take a breath of air because its hot as hell here in florida today, i tried it again and it turned and started like nothing. has this ever happen to anyone else.

I'm guessing air in the fuel lines. Evaporated since it was hot.

Was the car cranking when you were turning the key initially? Or did you turn the key and get nothing?

i couldnt even turn the key, and i dont think it was because you know sometimes in cars if you turn the steering wheel a certain way it will like lock up. it just was completely stuck

Ahh, that's a more clear explaination of the problem then...

Two things I can think of:
1) You could have a problem with the mechanicals of the steering wheel interlock that is manefesting itself intermitanly, perhaps related to the high heat that day.
2) I have a 14 year old Nissan Sentra. The ignition key cylinder in that old car is finicky. I have to have the key inserted in just the right way to be able to turn it. If the ignition key is not inserted and jiggled in just the right way, I cannot turn the key cylinder. Your ignition key cylinder could have a similar problem. But if that's the case, I would think it should be giving you the same trouble every time you try to start it.

I had the same problem with my 1.5 month old MR today. It's actually happened every now and then.. where I couldn't turn the key at all, but usually putting some muscle into it would make it turn eventually. But this morning, it wouldn't budge a bit, and I was afraid I would snap the key. Tried the second key and got the same result. So I just biked to work and tried it again tonight. Same result. Then I searched and found this thread to find out about the steering interlock and remembered I did twist the steering wheel kinda funky last night right when I shut it off, because I'm **** retentive and have to have the steering wheel perfectly parallel to the ground when I park it. I went back out, put the key in and gently jiggled both the steering wheel and the key and it turned right away. Whew.. thank God for this board. My next step would've been calling the dealership and having them laugh their butts off at me... :P

You guys probably just have your wheels locked. Happens to all cars. Just wiggle the steering wheel and you should be cool. Don't worry, at the shop we've laughed at people calling about weird things with their cars, so you guys would just fall right in. hahaha... kidding
