Which is better, ARC intake or HKS RS?

Guys would you help me decide on what to get? I think ARC looks better but HKS RS got more gains. On other hand, HKS RS gets dirty in just a short time. Which has nicer sound? Louder sound? Annoying sound? Easy to maintain?

Thanks in Advance!

jemjow,

I have run both an ARC super induction box as well as the HKS SMF. Here are my pictures as evidence.

The ARC box, while appearing to be the more attractive of the two, has its drawbacks. First and foremost is that the price of replacement filters for the ARC unit cost $85. Each. And you will need 2. As compared to the $25 price tag of the HKS replacement filter element, you can see that it will cost more to maintain the ARC box, right off the bat. The ARC box is also restrictive later on if you decide to upgrade your motor and associated parts. It does not leave much room for add-ons For the price and quality, as well as long-term maintenance, I would much rather see you go with an HKS RS.

I have the ARC. Great intake, but with definite draw backs. Just as mentioned earlier, depending on future mods, you could reach restrictions on mods under the hood later on. Great sound, expensive maintenance vs any other filter. If i did it all over again????.... I would go with HKS. Im just going to hang tight with this one until I do a turbo upgrade at this point.

The ARC is better depending on what you are asking. The HKS tunes really well and does just as well as the ARC but the HKS RS has issues with thier filter braking up to much and messing up you MAF sensor.

The only people I've seen with issues on the HKS breaking up are those who don't change the filter element on a regular basis. As far as oil on the MAF, HKS makes two different filter designs. One is a pre-oiled dual layer filter and the other is a triple layer dry filter. If you don't want oil buildup on the MAF, just get the triple dry.

We are no longer recommending the HKS RS. It disrupts the MAF signal reading causing a lean spot that full rich maps on an ECU reflash cannot overcome without tricking the ECU with injector sizing offsets.

Thumbs down for HKS RS, an intake we used to recommend.

The filter element is the problem, not the pipe.

So what is recommended at this point? Thanks. I feel better now with my arc, despite the cost.

We believe in the Injen intake product as used on our own car. Any intake with a true cotton gauze oiled K&N and HKS-like or Injen-like pipe should work.

Be wary of the mushroom intake filters and the K&N "looking" filters which are just China made dry paper filters. The ricer section of Autozone and Advance Auto Parts usually sell that crap. They also sell true K&N however. Know the difference.

Another interesting filter that does not require oil is the Blitz stainless steel fine mesh which is easy to wash and is very durable.

Changing from K&N to this Blitz filter has seen no substantial change in AFR's in customer cars thus far.

now this gets more confusing. I was leaning toward the RS until TTP stepped in. does it really mess up the hoses? and what's that triple dry thing?

RS users cmon guys, share some info.

thanks

I have the HKS RS intake (yellow) and it does make the stock BOV audible. My car idles somewhat crappy, but it may have been caused by the intake, or it could be the 272 cams. Who knows.

Have you considered staying with the stock airbox?
