ECU Location on EVO VIII

I did a search and saw a thread explaining that the ECU is behind the glove box. I looked there and still can't find it. Can someone explain in detail where it is?

Hmmm on dsm's it's right behind the stereo to the right of the gas pedal. Evo's may be eslewhere though. If there is a plastic panel to the right of your right leg in the driver's seat, it couldn't really hurt to take out the couple of screws holding it and check.

I quickly took a look to find it when I was working on installing my Boost Gauge, basically preparing myself for the SAFC install (getting up the nerve to cut into a 1 month old wiring harness ACK!) It looked like it was right behind the Glove box, at least thats where I thought I saw it.. Now, how do you get easy access to the wiring.. Not sure, made no attempt to remove the glovebox door or anything to access it..

It is behind the glove box. Remove the glove box (you only have to pop out the left hinge), and you'll see the ECU on the left hand side bolted in with three 10mm bolts. The wiring runs up to the ECU from the "bottom". That is, from the floorboard side of the glovebox area. There's a small protector panel sorta thing snapped into place below and to the left of the glovebox. You'll need to pop that out to get at the wiring harness. Looks to be much easier to work on than the 2G DSMs as you won't have to crawl under that !%$@$%@ steering wheel to get at the harness. And it even appears there's *extra* length to the wiring or something...

first you have to take out the glove box... really easy, one black plug on the left side, then pull out...

once you have it out, you'll see a grey protector plastic to the left... slide off the protector

see all those wires? that's ECU land
