I feel so sorry for a friend....

as the title says i feel sorry cause he bought a twin disc exedy clutch for his evo it only lasted 1200miles he made about 7 launches from a standstill and yes we have ajusted the clutch pedal a zillion times and it slips always when it hits full boost also we have bleed the clutch pump the car makes about 400whp so what could it be what are the causes for the clutch to wear down so fast??
i ask cause i wanted to buy this clutch for my car but now it scares me....
thanks

Was the clutch broken in properly? Possibly never gained the holding capacity it should have had to due an improper wear in.

Yeah somethings not right... over 20k on mine with not one single problem. Either install problem, break in problem, or some major driver error(s).

Yeah no ****, I learned that the hard way too. I went through a brand new ACT HD clutch on a stock car in 2000 miles due to violent launches and not breaking it in. You need to go easy on it for at least 500 miles. No launching, and keep her under 4.5K. After proper break-in on the new one, I've gone 10K+ w/ no problems with track days and launches in=between. Good luck w/ the new one.

I wish Exedy or someone would figure out whats wrong. I spent $2,300 on a Exedy twin plate carbon and it wore out in 900 miles. Never launched, never raced!!! It slipped so bad I couldn't get the car dyno'd. I tried to contact them by e-mail and phone and got no reply. I ended up going with an ACT race clutch and ACT prolyte flywheel. The purple clutch looks great hanging on the wall, but not as good as the $2,300 looked in my bank account.

This might sound stupid, but did you ever try heating it up prior to running it hard?

I have a cusco twin (essentially an exedy) and it has 30k+ miles on it, I drive the snot outta my car and it's made over 350whp the entire time I've had it. 150+ launches, autocross, etc. Still holds well.

I have to agree with the users above....

Install error
Improper break-in
Driver error

Can't you rebuild the twin-plate carbons? For that kind of money, you sure as hell better be able to!

So does it slip when it hits full boost under load i.e. 5th gear at 2.5K or during hard acceleration? When he did the 7 launches, were they back to back? Did he smell clutch burning? If the clutch gets too hot, that friction surface will turn to glass and won't want to bite anymore.

is it posibleto only nut the exede discs an not all the other things like the flywheel and presure plate???
he never smelled clutch he never burnt it and the 7 launches were in 7 diff ocasions,
hey i have my stcok clutch with 12000miles on it with pure racing and have made like more then 40++launches 7000rpms drops and have made a zillion races from a roll and the clutch is still a bit fine not as new but fine when normal driving and if raced after several races it starts to either slip or the gearbox becomes very notchy but it still hasent died as his clutch!!
i would prefer the stock one again and again but his car has much more hp then mine so we dont know if the stock clutch will hold his power

with the twin disk type you normally have to slip the crap out of it, to heat it up then it will hold power. Mine has 1,500 no problems.

yeah, you can try replacing the disc and resurfacing the flywheel. I have a friend who does that all the time w/ his clutches. Once you pull the cluch back out, you will be able to tell which parts will need to be replaced.

Over 100 launches, 15 autocross races, and about 35,000 miles on my Exedy Twin Disc clutch. Sorry to hear about your problems . . .
