Unhappy car not boosting..what can I check for?

went over the tubes on the wastegate and the boost controller diagram etc.
everything is set up properly.

can it be a faulty wastegate?
or could it be the turbo itself?

it refuses to go into boost...and full throttle the boost gauge goes up to the '0' mark and stays there and the car pulls dead.
seems like the turbo isnt spooling at all..

can anyone help?

thanks

Check your IC piping, sounds like it came apart somewhere.

If all else fails check your cat. Back in the day when the EVO first came out we spent 8 hours trying to diagnose a boost problem only to find out the stock cat failed.

Cheers,

Yeah it will, its happend to me before. If it blows apart NOT at the TB, it will still run normal, just not boost.

No, if the IC piping blows off, you can't hardly get over 25-30mph, and the moment you attempt to hit boost, the car stutters and stumbles like mad. It doesn't just accelerate without boosting - it won't even let you press the throttle.

I think this is something more serious. The turbo could be shot.

not true if the IC pipe blows off it will go as long as you shift b4 boost i was going over 45 mph when mine blew off. as long as you shift b4 boost it will go not very fun though. check your upper intercooler pipe. thats where mine blew off and check your lower intercooler piping.

Than I guess I have a magic Evo than because my piping came apart about a foot away from the TB and I drove it that way for about 4 miles until I got to a friends to put it back together. Drove perfectly normal, just no boost.

Another time it came off at the TB, drove like ****, couldn't even barely touch the gas. Had to stop right away and put it back together.

I say just check your piping, what will it hurt?

You can't get to 45 without hitting 1psi of boost. You just can't press the throttle enough. I even have 6 gears, but even shifting before it tries to build boost in every gear didn't allow me to get over 30. It's basically undrivable other than at very low speed.

Again, he would know if it's his IC piping, because the car would cough buck madly when going WOT. He's saying it WON'T build any boost. When the IC pipes are disconnected, it starts to build boost then coughs and stutters.

If you do have a cat I would recommend you check that... Ive spent hours checking and even replacing every coupler, clamps, and even pipes, bov and fmic.. and to find out that my car still would not boost

It ended up being my cat at the end.. this happened to 2 evos that ive owned

Sounds like you have a blown turbo. Is it still spinning @ idle?

The symptoms of cat failure are usually the car still runs but you are not able to hit over X amount of boost (usually below 10psi). This is different than when the IC pipes pop off the car will tend to bog, idle erratically and stumble due to a miscalculation of air-mass entering the car. The symptoms are a little bit different for each of the causes. Good luck!
