This reduces piston sidewall loading a little bit and improves the potential for high rpm efficiency, so long as everything else (including turbo) can support it. Do not get the impression that this magically allows another 1k rpm out of the engine with no ill effects, because this isn't the case.

Just FYI.
I think the rod/stroke ratio is higher. 1.84 Ted

162mm rod (manley rod)
88mm stroke (4G63 crank)
=1.84

Right? Or am I using wrong math/numbers

I hope I know what to do....Follow directions in the Maint Man, go slow and be thorough, measure twice, torque once.

Curt Brown also had trouble with his SBR 2.1 motor at the EVO vs Subaru that just passed. The motor failed on him.

You're using the right math, wrong numbers.

A 6mm increase in deck height (4G64) requires a 6mm longer rod. The factory rod is 150mm, the revised rod is 156mm.

the rod is actually 162mm... they use a much shorter piston. its like a stroker piston... Look at how high the pin is.

Well there you go. I learned something new today. I had no idea a 6mm shorter piston was used. Anyway, that gives a rod/stroke ratio of 1.88

Look at how he drives it. He admits that his launch RPM is higher than his shift RPM. Plus it lasted quite a while with some dyno sessions as well. If Curt could tell us how many miles he had on it, that would be great.

On the subject of DSM 2.1L....that is a different block (model year) and head. I also believe that the DSM guys have to weld stuff on the block to make it mate with the head right? At least that is what I read on some other site for DSM's.

It is really hard to find any hard evidence on this motor as it is not very common. I will keep a running log on the motor, I aready do for the car with a d-ring binder. But time will tell. I plan on street driving/highway trips and an occasional auto-x/track day. The car will turn into a weekend only vehicle. I have no plans on this being a daily driver anymore.

I am very open on here about my experiences with all my parts be it good or bad. I have nothing to hide when things fail. Even if the cause is my fault.

another question. My head took some damage on the #4 cylinder combustion chamber. One of the intake valves had the rocker arm come off the valve stem/spring. I have no idea how that happened. I was thinking that I should reman the head but the price is high. Is it necessary to replace the valve guides? Or should I just go with new springs (obviously for the JUN cams) with new valves and seals? I dont think the valve is bent or made any contact with the piston. Can I get away with just replaceing the moving parts (which I can do myself)

Unless it's connecting rod bolts, then you torque like 5-6 times

what year 4g64 block do you need in order for the power steering and a/c components to bolt up properly?
