car making low power : help plz

I haven't made the power I should be making since the beginning. When the car was stock it was a "freak" making strong power numbers (243whp). It now has ;

Mbc @ 25psi
Helix Turboback (no cat)
kN drop-in
264in\ex Hks Cams
runs on 100 Octane (tuned for it)
Harman Reflash (dynojet)
05 hotside with ported and coated manifold and O2 housing

now, take a guess where you think the power should be. it's prolly a lot lower than what you imagined

327whp 322wtrq. any guesses as to where why power has run off too? here is some more clues; every week the plugs foul and the power drops noticeably . when the plugs are new the power is back to it's already weak 330whp. We could never figure out why it was weak now we can't figure out what's making the plugs foul causing it do be weaker (didnt know that was possible) . Tuner thinks it may be ignition problems and the spark isn't strong enough and is being "blown out" he gapped the plugs lower to help combat it but the power only returned to it's already dismal output. he recommended the HKS DLI2 And possibly cam gears for the 264's

any help?

Have you considered another tuner?

Which plugs are you using? I'd recommend 8 heat range for 25psi and 100oct daily. You can quickly and easily foul plugs if they aren't the right heat range, especially when running ***** out like that all the time.

Another sign of problems is that you say you're running 25psi, but your peak tq is lower than peak hp. You should have a LARGE torque spike that gives significantly more peak tq than peak hp unless you really aren't hitting 25psi. On 26psi down at sea level, I was doing 341whp/361wtq with stock cams.

Have you ever done a compression check on the cylinders ?

Bolsen , Yes. Although I like my tuner I am a bit nervous about the lack of power. There's Gotta be a reason somewhere and I can't imagine it being only the tune.

Warr, The Plugs are normal range Copper NGK ( Not the stock Iridiums )

Boost Chart shows I am hitting 24.77 psi. And the TRQ numbers are almost identical to the WHP numbers now that I am home looking at it

Do you have a fuel pump? Iam guessing yes.

No need for cam gears, the dli will help although I do not think that is your problem. What is your AF ?

Well if your comp. reading is below specs. You are going to lose power.

170 psi will have more power than a reading of 140 psi.

Fuel Pump is a yes,

Tuner says AFR is 11-1

Should I have someone check the compression?

You can go rent a compression test from autozone or some other shop for like 5 bucks. Take it home, pull your plugs, crank it 4 times per cylinder and get the reading. Very simple to do.

It will not hurt to have a comp/leakdown performed to eliminate those possibilities. Your numbers are low for 100oct, maybe try a differant tuner.

Yes, do a compression check. It's cheap, simple, and easy. Just buy the gauge so you can use it in the future. It only takes a few minutes, and you can do it by yourself. Also, do a boost leak test to make sure you're not blowing hot air by making the turbo overcome a boost leak to maintain 25psi. At 24.77psi, you should have a good bit more tq than hp, so something is wrong. This would inciate a boost leak, or they aren't tuning it with lean spool. You should start pretty lean on spoolup, then ramp down to the 11s after full boost. However, 11.0:1 is way way low for running 100oct daily. Most people run higher than that on 91oct and definitely on 93oct. 100oct allows you to run 12.0:1 daily at 25psi without detonation. You could even just do 11.6-11.8:1 if you wanted to increase the safety margin.

I thought the 330awhp was close but that sucks bout the plugs. Try the ngkbpr8es? I was missfiring and change to them and havent had a prob since. Good luck though

Any other Suggestions? We haven't really hit a Nail on the Head. Besides COmpression and Boost leak Tests, what else can be done to narrow the options?

Any Stab in the dark Ideas?

I thought we touched on a bunch already:

- boost leak(s)
- low compression
- poor tune
- boost lower than you think
- proper plugs with proper gap

Try a few things, then if nothing changes, try more.
