Fuel System

Hey everyone. I just bought a used 03 Evo 8 with a 3" exhaust, cai, ecu reflash, and a safc. I was wondering if someone could tell me how much room this factory fuel system has in it before it needs to be modified. I don't think the fuel pump is stock because it can be easily heard outside the car (I don't know if that's how the stock ones sound or not). But, I know the injectors are stock. I just cranked the boost up to 24psi and did some tunning, and the car pulls like crazy. I just want to know how close I am to hitting 100% duty cycle on those injectors. Thanks.

You should still have headroom left re: IDC. But, 1st try to verify if indeed pump has been upgraded, and if not it would be best to do it. It would be helpful as well, to know the exact list of mods on your car. Are the cams still stock? Is cat deleted? Who did the base flash? Which CAI does it have?

You must be decent at tuning yourself, just be sure not to tune w/o a data logger. Welcome aboard! There is a subforum here on EvoM dedicated to tuning w/the SAFC. Oh and BTW, at 24# be sure to run the best pump gas available, especially if your '03 turbo still sports the 9.8 hotside.

Thanks. I was unaware that the hotside on the 16G changed during the Evo VIII line. What size did it go to, and in what year?

And yes, I do run good pump gas.

AFAIK, all USDM models switched from the 9.8 to the 10.5 HS in 2005, correct me if I'm wrong. Some of the JDM models continue to this day with 9.8 hotsides. But, since you bought your car used and already modded, then it's possible that the previous owner had already swapped to a 10.5 HS.

The 10.5 HS reduces exhaust backpressure, helps lower EGT's and reduces detonation allowing for a more agressive tune, thus freeing up more HP.

I see. Thanks for the info. Is there any easy/quick way to tell which turbo it is just by looking, or will it have to be taken off? Well, if the smaller one is on there, at least the turbo with smaller hotside will spool slightly quicker...although I know less detonation and lower egts will outweigh quicker spool.
