Question Rapid Boost drop cause?

I have a Forge Unos boost controller and a Forge WGA with the red spring. Recently, my car will build boost very quickly until it hits say 21 PSI at 3000 RPM and then rapidly drops to 10 PSI and stays there. The acelleration seems a little flat . So. the boost drop is probably real. Could this be due to too low a preload on the WGA? Doers this setting change? When I had the car dyno tuned 2 months ago the boost control was perfect at 21 PSI. There have been no changes to the car. I don't think that I have a boost leak because the same thing happens when I turn the boost down to 19 PSI. Any ideas?

Rapid boost drop

I have just checked all the clamps from the turbo to the throttle body. They are all tight and straight. I thought to test the WGA by clamping off the boost line going to it. The same thing happens at around 3,000-3,500 RPM when the boost builds up to what ever I set the boost controler is set to (19-21PSI) the boost almost immediately drops to about 10 PSI and holds this to 7,000 RPM. My boost gauge seems to be working fine. The car pulls harder before the boost drop than after it happens. So, the boost drop must be real.

I changed the Forge adjustable DV out for an Evo IX DV and the same thing happens. What else controls boost besides the turbo, the WGA and the DV? The OEM electronic boost controller valve below the OEM air box is bypassed. I have a Buschur intake so I don't the typical air box problem. What am I missing?

I am having the exact same issue as of last night, but mine is doing it at 5000 rpm in every gear. Shoots straight to 23 psi and holds then falls to 10 at 5000. I will post what it was after I troubleshoot it tonight.

try a different brand boost controller like hallman, and see if the problem persists. I have a feeling the problem will go away.

as long as your rpm isn't skipping, i think it's the boost controller. but it would help to see your mbc setup...

DRAG, yours is probably the intake snorkel phenomenon that we all love. Make sure both clips are fastening down the intake snorkel.

For the OP, though, he has the BR intake and it's happening near peak boost, so that is very strange. It is not the Forge WGA or the BOV, I don't believe. I highly doubt it's the MBC, too, because there's no reason for it to randomly cause the boost to drop to 10psi. Since 10-11psi is base wastegate pressure, then it makes me think something is coming disconnected in your boost system under load.

I would try switching back to the stock BOV. Pressurize your intake and look for boost leaks.

That is EXACTLY what it was. I just went out on lunch and the car is running harder than it has in 10,000 miles. My clips were just worn out and popped themselves out at the track last night. I put some zip ties on there and it is good to go!! Thanks

I'm glad that was the only problem.. I didn't get a reply so I assumed that was the resolution.

You guys have no idea how common that is..

Yeah I was out tinkering with it when you replied. Thanks!

I'm pissed that I wasted $50 in race gas and track fees last night for a stupid intake snork-hole. Oh well...back there next week to see if I can break 110mph on my $20 in mods.
