I like the idea of a 4.111 final drive for road racing because then I could avoid shifting to 5th and use 2nd on most courses.

How much effort is it to change the final drive?

Can 5th be changed on the IX 5speed to the .825? I'd like to leave 1-4 the same and go to a shorter 5th gear.

Fourdorr,

Great post. I happen to annotate also the speeds on each gear of the cars that I had. I don't drive them to full speed on each gear but you can still calculate the speed/rpm for each gear based on a simple math equation.

What I find very very off is the speed on the Evo MR. Based on your data my Evo MR would get 152.7mph in 4th gear at 8000 rpm

if you get 105mph at 5500 rpm
you get x mph at 8000 rpm

so

x= 105 x 8000 divided by 5500= 152.7

Carlos

Bump for an answer.

Also is 4th gear on the EVO9 really limited to 106?

Just noticed this post, sorry for the slow reply. The data you talk about above is for 5th gear in the MR's 6 speed, not 4th gear. Does that fit your experiance better? For 4th gear you should see around 120 mph at 8,000 RPM, or almost 83 mph at 5,500 RPM.

I havent found reliable information concerning the actual final drive for the MR. Is it 4.583 as reported by some car magazines or 4.853 as GEARS typed (maybe by transposition)?

So the HKS Kansai 4.111 final gear will not work with the MR 6-speed? If not, is there any other way to give the MR taller gearing?
