The Purpose for ONLY having 91 Octane in certain states?

I hav e not found much information regarding the matter......

I could have sworn that higher octane fuels, being more free of contaminants and such would be better for the environment....however, I am curious....

Why would Califormia restict PUMP gas to be 91 octane only? What is the benefit, control? Jerks?

Or since i think CA is the state that consumes the most gas and 91 is the most plentiful?? beats me....

in higher elevation states, the octane level doesnt have to be as high to resist detonation

we only get 92 here in hawaii. many states restrict octane to cut "certain cars off the street" this was told to me by an owner of a gas station in az

that the truth. CA has waaay to many laws but at least not many cops to enforce them! Im Ginna Git back to Texas next month so my RS can sip some George Busch special $2.99 93 octane without sound laws or a cat while hiding behind some tinted windows. (Ca has 91 octane @$3.50gal, 95db sound laws, visual inspection laws, no tint allowed on front windows) Cant wait for my free Works 93 reflash

AZ is actualy worse off. Its Oxygenated 91. Its a special blend called "Summer blend" which is odd because our winter fuel is normal 91 which is better.. You would think we would get the better fuel in the summer when cars need it!
