Every EVO shold have this two mods even you feel stock EVO is fast enough !

The short shifter kit w/bushing and engine torque damper kit. Buy a name brand one and save your time if you are DIY ( Any one can do it just following the how to thread). After I install those two parts, I feel I drive a different car, a lot of smoother than before. For those people feel the EVO is fast enough and prefer stock power. Do this two mod and you will like your EVO even more !! How much ? about $300 !

If you are like my friend, don't want to mess up with evo too much, so he put a K&N drop in air filter and a ebay TBE exhaust and a mail in ECU flash. His EVO make about 25-30 whp more than stock and still have the stock evo reliabe. how much ?
about $550 !

Just my 2c

Poor advice on the damper. A $50 front motor mount is far better, and for $300, I'd do a flash and mbc all day before your two.

The dampers actually help a lot. I do agree they are not worth $300 though. We should have some ~$99 dampers soon.

Cheers,

They still don't help as much as a motor mount, because they are just compensating for the stock motor mount. It's just a bandaid approach that costs more - most people do it for looks.

How much labor ($$$) would go into replacing the motor mounts? Ballpark, please.

That was funny the bandaid approach... some people also do it because some people dont like to mess with the mounts..

If you read my thread more carefully, you can see the $300 is for short shifter kit w/bushing and engine torque damper. Those two mod is for the people who think their stock EVO is fast enough. If you want a bit more power than stock , you can go with k&N drop in filter, TBE and mail-in flash !!

I don't know - ask a shop. It's a very easy install - extremely easy. The only hard part is removing the stock bushing. If you can get access to a press, it takes 5 seconds. If not, then you just have to use hammers, chisels, screwdrivers, and whatever other medieval weapons you have to rip it out. The rest is like playing with Lego's.

Some people like the dampner more than the mounts because its only really working when the motor tries to move.

The upgraded bushing is always stiff, so for some it tranfers too much vibration into the chassis during idle, etc, WHEN the extra stiffness isn't required.
