Probably a stupid question...

Im about to pick up a 2003 Evo on Weds/Thurs. It already has a buschur racing TBE, Turbo XS boost controller and Tein S-Techs. Im wanting to put on a BOV, intake, bigger front mount and up the boost along with a reflash. Im wanting to go ahead and put on an intake, but i heard that if you put the intake and BOV on it will actually lose power until you get a reflash. Is this true or just a rumor i heard? Thanks for your help!

Don't bother with the intake and FMIC. The intake will only hurt the car without a tune, and the FMIC isn't needed at all. The stock FMIC is perfectly matched for the stock turbo. You'll spend less on cams to get much more power. The BOV can be installed anytime as long as it's fully-recirculating. If you get one that vents to atmosphere, then it will run like crap regardless of tuning - tuning doesn't help with a VTA BOV. Also, you'll want to get rid of that TXS MBC and get a good one like the Forge UNOS or Hallman Pro.

You ask if this is true or a rumor, but yet you didn't bother to search and find the 1000+ threads that answer these questions? Interesting, because we have intake/bov threads everyday due to people not searching.

what ever he said ...vta bov are all noise...if you like it and dont mind sacraficing drivability issues(rpm dropping too low, stalling between gears) then get it...it sure turn heads though...other wise get forge rs, greddy type s or rs, or oem ix/jdm mr dv...

if you really want to hear ur bov .. u might get an intake .. and u'll hear ur stock BOV louder ...and it's no rumer .. you might lose HP from the Intake ... unless u get tuned ..
Save ur money from the FMIC and a BOV .. and Get your Self Cams ... well worth the money .. and the Noticeable gain ...

you are like paying 1k$ for nothing ... just sound and show off ..

FMIC = $800 + ... u can get cams ... and u'll have more money left ...
BOV = $200 + .... don't get it and do a Tune ...

For now I'd leave the stock intake box on it and drop a K&N panel filter in it. The intake is not needed at this point. Go ahead and get the Forge RS. That way if you decide to run alky or upgrade the turbo you'll at least have a good diverter valve. The stock diverter valve on the 03's are a POS.

Also I agree with Dead-Man. For the money you put in a front mount you could have cams and for a little more you could get alky injection too. It'll feel like a whole different world with those things.

GSC Cams $500
Alky Injection $500
Forge Rs $170
One powerful machine $1170

Thanks for all the advice. Im just looking to get around 300whp out of it. Its going to be my daily driver and need it to be reliable. Also I live and am moving to a very emissions restrictive states (Georgia and Nevada). I had planned to just use the MR DV and switch to an electronic boost controller. I had good luck with the Greddy boost controller on my SR20'd 240. My only concern are the cams. Wouldnt those make the car non-emissions compliant? If not ill go that route along with a tune. Thanks alot and wish me luck on the impending sale.

No, cams won't, but the exhaust will. You can get 300whp just from the mods in my sig for the VIII. Just mimic that mod path.
