the rpm guage reads that low but the car isn't actually idling that horribly. which leads me to believe the rpm guage is bad, but it does misfire

Try spraying the sensor off with MAF cleaner. It can be purchased at Pep boys, Autozone. The can is grey and has red writing. It's specifically for Maf sensors. I keep mine nice and clean. It makes a big difference.

Could also have an O2 going bad. The idle problem sounds like a vacuum leak. Check your intake manifold gasket....with the car running, spray some carb cleaner around the intake manifold, places where it could be leaking. Listen for the idle to change....if it does, pay attention to where your spraying the carb spray.

i'll try this tomorrow

Purchase Evoscan and the tactrix cable. See what the RPM signal is actually reading. If your RPM's are in fact reading 100 rpms and your gauge is correct, either you are really idling at 100 RPM's (hard to believe) or you have a bad/inaccurate crank sensor or something which could be causing the misfire. Good luck! I also suggest purchasing the repair manual on ebay and digital multimeter to test all the sensors and electrical components involved with the ignition.
