Only 17lbs of Boost?

I just now noticed that I only see about 17lbs of boost tapering off to as low as 15lbs. I get an occassional spike a bit higher than that but it still tapers off to around 15/16lbs at the end of the gear. I've tried this in all gears from 2nd to 5th.

Does the stroker play a role in this? The car does feel strong. Should I throw on a MBC and see what happens?

Mods:

MOTOR - 2.3 Stroker || Wiseco Pistons || Scat H-Beam Rods || Balance Shaft Delete
HEAD - Ported/Polished || Ferrea Valves || Works Valve Springs || Ti Retainers || Delphi 680cc Injectors || Denso Iw24 Plugs || Ports Matched
OTHER - Walbro 255 || ACT Street Disk || Tubular O2 || Hawk HP+ || Slotted Rotors

Thanks IA!

could be, but is that your most recent mod?, check for leaks first., then check your BOV.

The car was way more modified before I recently bought it. I bought it with all mods listed in my original post. I just didn't pay much attention to the boost gauge before now. I am also not sure of the accuracy of the gauge itself as it shows about 2-3" of vacuum with the car turned off.

What should I check on the BOV? I will try to pressure test it tomorrow.

Thanks!

Wait, so you have a stroker with no boost control, and the gauge doesn't rest at 0 when the car is off? You need a properly calibrated gauge that reads 0 when it's off, then you might see 19-20psi stock if the stock boost system is properly connected using the 100% stock OEM boost lines. If not, then get an MBC...you'll need one anyway to run the boost you want on that motor.

Let me guess. It's an autometer boost gauge right?

It's actually not. I really don't know what brand gage it is. It looks like the previous owner may have bought it for the looks, not accuracy. I looks like there may be the letters A and P in some crazy *** font on the face.

I am going to invest in a better gauge. I believe all boost controll lines are all hooked up properly, but then again, I've never seen a stock setup.

And Jeff, I didn't realize you bought an Evo.

i would think that you'd have some type of boost control with those mods. usually that is one of the first things that goes on.

Whoa.. I didnt even notice you were from Bella Vista.

The reason I thought it may be an Autometer gauge was that I have seen the fail time and time again and show vacuum or even positive pressure when the car was not even running. I hate them.

And yes, I sold the rediculously fast black car and got into road racing big time a little more than a year ago. I love my EVO.

Ok, just installed another boost gauge and I am now seeing a spike of 20lbs of boost tapering off to 17lbs or even lower to 15lbs. I guess my next step is to install an MBC. Once installed, I will report back!

That level of boost you are seeing seems exactly like stock boost.

Really? I know stock boost levels are around 20-21psi, however, I didn't think it would taper THAT much! Do you think a MBC will help eliminate this?

yes, you'll still have some taper using the stock turbo at higher than stock boost levels but not as drastic.

You didn't think the stock boost tapered a lot? Wow...

Stock boost:

03/04 - 19.5psi@3500rpm, 16psi@6500rpm
05/06 - 20.3psi@3500rpm, 17psi@6500rpm

That's the main thing everyone complains about and attempts to remove right away. That's why we were terribly confused as to how you have a stroker but no boost control. It's like having a GT42r turbo on stock exhaust.
