If you hit the fuel cutoff, did you find you had to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU after you backed off on the boost?

Nope. But later that day after work I installed the A/F gauge and had to disconnect it anyways. But the car felt fine after I hit feul cut, just a quick jolting feeling and then nothing.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned that this car didn't have a hard rev-limiter.. I'm not certain if there is one, I definitely perceived what felt/sounded like a rev limiter, and not fuel cut.. My question was definitely with regard to a fuel cut though, because I do know once you hit it, you usually have to reset the ECU..

if there is a rev limiter then it's not doing its job, i took my evo to 7500 lastnight in first gear and didn't hit rev so i'm not to sure if it has one. Rev limiters are usually 200-500rpms or so after redline.

The rev limiter is set at around 7800 I believe.

Isn't fuel cut-off and the rev limiter basically the same thing? The rev limiter is in place in order for the fuel to be cut so the engine doesn't get destroyed...Or the fuel cut off is where the rev limiter comes in and keeps the engine from rotating further to decrease engine damage? I don't know exactly but the honda fuel cut off is pretty damn harsh...especially in my car but then again mines a sport shift and its prolly the transmission doing a hardshift. I have heard though the manual prelude's and ITR's have pretty harsh cut off's/limiters.

rev limiter cuts ignition spark, fuel cutoff cuts fuel feels alot different.

They are not the same. The rev limiter feels and sound like a rapid "flutter" as it holds rpms below the limit. Fuel cuts feels like you hit a brick wall as the car physically bucks from the immediate cessation of fuel and spark.

You can't hit the rev limiter at 5000rpm but you can fuel cut depending on how much air your car is sucking and the boost you have dialed in and outside temperature and pressure and..... read Claudius's excellent tutorial:
