Do I need to change my intercooler because of the blown turbo? Someone in another forum said that there may be hidden debris there and the intercooler might be damaged and have leaks.

I would at the very least take off your entire intake tract and make sure no remaining debris in the system anywhere. Shake the intercooler around (and flush it out with alcohol) and listen for any rattling sounds. You also might want to try pressurizing it and spray it with soapy water to detect leaks (should see bubbles). Good luck!

1) Manufacturer defect or somehting was in there.
2)Get a new turbo of your choice.
3)Well you could have turbo parts in you I/C. I would remove the I/C and piping, all the piping just to be safe, and clean them out to make sure no loose parts are in there that could possibly make it to the engine later on. I woul use a compressor at a low pressure,about 20 psi and blow air through the intercooler from the outlet side to remove any small pieces that might have made it into the intercooler.

Have you sorted out your turbo problem?

Fortunately, I have persuaded my importer to compensate for the blown turbo. So, I am getting the same JDM EVO IX turbo (brand new), but get this: The suspect units that had the compressor wheel failure in the early EVO IXs had part no. "49378-01570 TD05HRA-16G6mC-10.5T". Mitsubishi did swap them on models in production but there wasn't a recall. The replacement part is "49378-01571 TD05HRS-16G6mC-10.5T". Actually, there was another revision. So, I'm getting the latest version of the same turbo.

I'm also getting the ARC 079 intercooler, as my stocker might be damaged.

I hope the car will be up and running within a month.

People sell the US spec 9 turbo on here all the time and they're not to costly. Maybe you could go that route?

Just received my new turbo and ARC intercooler (079). I went for the same mag turbo that blew. Guess I will take my chances.

Chamama, Is that a titanium compressor wheel? The arc intercooler is much bigger than the original. It will be good enough for the original turbo. This turbo can do 350whp easily. good luck.

yes, it's a magnesium/titanium turbo. Revised version of my stock one.

Actually, the ARC intercooler is very close to stock size. But I have already noticed the car pulling harder and spooling 300-400 rpms faster.

For some reason my BOV is also making a more pronounced sound now.

I am going to get some more parts like Amuse exhaust, HKS/Ralliart intercooler pipes, HKS EBC, and then I will need to change the ECU (Most likely Autronics) and get a tune.

You should use sm4 for your car and probably you may think of changing injectors too. I change my customers evo9 here to 800cc injectors and using evo6 10.5t turbo.

I can confirm this - my Evo IX JDM features an even later version of the second part # listed above. They definately swapped off of that original turbo for a damn good reason....im assuming they were melting wheels.
