TINY TINY CHIP on hks272 lobe.?

i just got a set hks 272's and they look pretty new except on one of the lobes it has a tiny tiny chip smaller then a pencil lead. Anyone think that would cause a problem or maybe it was a defect? The cams look in perfect condition besides the tiny chip that i just some how noticed because i looked at every single lobe.....

if it is not on the portion that contacts the rocker arm you'll be fine.

I don't know, cams spin pretty fast. A small chip may make the cam very weak and thus may develop into a crack later.

I would send it back as well.

well its not like a chip that would be aboutt o make a crack in my opinion, its like thiner then a pencil shaving but its on the top of the lobe, but its not where near where the rocker arm would hit it

You should see GSC cams and what they get away with then. I've had mine for 12k with no problems.

A picture would help.

I would send it back regardless. You don't know how it got that chip. It could have been dropped, had something dropped on it, could be bent, you never know. When it comes to internals replacing is always better (and usually cheaper) than guessing.

The only other thing I could think to do would be take to it to a local engine shop and have them magnaflux it and mic it.

it's probably just a tiny void in the casting and if so it will be ok. If it was dropped there would be other damage.
