Weakest link..TC or Tranny??

Exactely what it says....which on goes first if any?....wondering if there is a trend....I have a 05. The reason why am asking is that my next set up at buschur will be putting 500+whp and I have the stock TC and tranny (Exedy HD is on)...I wont be draging or launching AT ALL....just street driving untill i build both...but i PROBABELY can squeeze some $$ for one this month

Thanks

Hard question to answer. Turbotrix is still using a stock 2003 TC and they have at least 900whp. On another note, the 903whp AMS EVO uses the stock tranny!

Exactly. I mean, I dont know how long they can last but with 500-600hp, I think the stock driveline is OK. It depends on how you treat it. If youre doing 6500rpm clutch drops with that power every week, well it may not last the whole year, but you get the point that it can handle some real power!

I always heard the tc was the weak point, which isnt a hard fix. Send it to Shep and have it freshened up. For $550.00 you get a solid shep rebuild tc with cryo treated gears. Cant beat that and its better than dropping $2500.00 if and when you blow the stocker!

i think he meant a brand new TC will cost $2500, but rebuilding it by shep will only cost around $800 if i m not wrong.

its true you pay less when you do it this way...but think of how long your car will be sitting in the garage or at the shop...I hear all kinds of horror stories here about people didnt get their trannys in MONTHS...dont know if ill be willing to do that...i rather save and buy a whole one built...ill just have my fingers crossed.

I took mine to Shep. He asked me when I wanted it back, I told him no rush. I recieved it 12 days later and that includes a weekend and the 4th of July holiday. That was for the tranny and t-case. I'm sure if you called and explained to him you can't afford to have your car down for too long, he will work with you.

tc's tend to go more due to incorrect fluids. as far as I know, the only thing that works is the stock diaqueen.

insane launches, if not absorbed by the clutch will bugger up the tranny. But I'm sure you can destroy the tc if you drive on patchy ice covered tarmac for hours on full lock with 900whp but that takes dedication.
