Act Clutch On Stock Flywheel...

Is anyone running an ACT clutch on a stock flywheel? Are thier any draw backs to this set up aside from the aftermarket flywheel being lighter?

Thanks in advance.

Danny,

I installed several ACT's on Evo's with stock flywheels with no problems.

Someone actually told me that set up was a little better because the aftermarket flywheel was light and thinner so it would over heat and "glaze" faster then the stock unit. Not sure how true that is.

Thanks for the reply man...

Defnitely not true. If you resue your stock flywheel make sure you get it turned. The cluctch will last Alot longer that way.

How is your idle? Also how is the "grab" of the clutch? Thanks for taking time to reply.

Can the streetlight flywheel be "resurfaced" ?

I heard from a DSMer that with the stock flywheel you will have closer to stock clutch feel (duh) but with an lightweight aluminum it will be engaged or disenged, no slipping it out. Which would be a pain in the neck to drive daily but worth it for track.

I disagree with you. I have an ACT with a Fidanza aluminum flywheel and have NO shifting issues. The DSM and the EVO clutch are Totally different. The EVO setup is 10x better.

this is a retarded comment, and totally not true.

To the original question, the ACT clutch will work just fine with the stock flywheel. The benefits of a lightweight flywheel are faster rev's and less parasitic drag of rotating a heavier stock flywheel. The benefits of the stock flywheel are easier launches because the heavier flywheel has more inertia and requires less rev's, and it has more mass to absorb the heat, so it's less prone to warping than the lighter aluminum flywheels. Reminder- the aluminum flywheels have a steel insert/facing where the clutch disc rides and wears. The friction material on the clutch disc comes in contact with steel, whether it's a stock steel flywheel or a lightweight aluminum flywheel. Engagement, disengagement will be the same with either flywheel.

Maybe with an unsprung hub like a 6 puck.
