Backfiring when shifting and getting into boost, help?
Ok so here's the problem:
During my shifts I get a slight backfire, but the rpms don't move or anything, it feels like a 2step.
Also if i'm in 4th gear at about 4.5k-5k rpms and I hit it, it starts to pull, once boost hits fully it spits for a second and then goes. Again it feels like a 2step or somthing, it's very weird and slows my shifts
Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps i'm pulling timing? Any help?

Have you recently changed your plugs? If so close the gap down a bit. Also how many miles do your wires have on them? Are you running stock wires? If running aftermarket switch back to your stockers and see if the problem is cleared up.
maybe an exhaust leak? I had a leak that caused an occasional backfire, especially when I would shift (my blowthrough lags behind for a moment and goes rich)
And the other issue, well depending on your tune (I'm assuming a flash) you may be hitting a load site just over what your load axis is scaled to.. it can have those symptoms.
You could need to look at your plugs too..

I'm still on the stock wires which are at 36k miles right now.

Yes, i'm on a Jestr flash, but I don't have the cable or anything to log the stock ECU, I wish I did.

Thats a good point, I have an HKS DLI2 and I have to gap them down to .025 even with the CDI.. But on my stock coils in good condition I had to go anywhere from .024-.022 The problem with a small gap is it could shroud the spark causing another type of misfire.. Damned if you do, damned if you dont..

Bad plugs.
It is very hard to tell the diff. from a good plug to a bad one sometimes. Also look at the ceramic housings. Sometimes you can see hairline fractures or red/orange/brown fractures in the housing. Signs that you have a bad plug and is causing misfire --> bad detonation --> backfiring.
I change my plugs every 15k ('bout all I get on them anywhy until I experience the same symptoms you have).
What heat range are you using 7s or 8s? Might do some good changing to 8s.

It doesn't matter how they look. Why do people just LOOK at their plugs and make a determination based on that? The gap could be off, or they could be fouled. Looking at them won't tell you much...
