Vta Bov's
hey Warr. i have a VTA i just bought (i like the sound wat can i say :P ) and im getting a flash soon (from dynoflash). if they fix the map for the VTA does that mean it isnt safe for the car to run with it on? (or isnt at its prime). if thats the case the im gonna sell it.
Everyone is right about MAF and VTA, your ecu doesnt know that the air didnt make it into the engine, so you wind up all rich while your venting, which isnt that long, but why even do it, it makes bad carbon deposits, nasty smoke between shifts, backfires, wastes gas (that premium cost $3.20+ gal...). If you looking for a stronger recirc valve, i dont know any specifics because i havent shopped around and im the only evo owner i know. If you looking to be cool like the STI guys and their ridiculously loud BOV then get yourself a intake and ditch the stock air box, it'll make your Diverter valve audible as the charge blows back thru the maf and it wont make your a/f ratio take a dump. Dubbleugly, you aren't making any point whatsoever. The RT-615s are WELL KNOWN TO BE AN EXCELLENT replacement for the Advan. You are trying to tell me that I'm being hypocritical for buying a set of tires that COST HALF AS MUCH as the Advans with WAY MORE than half the performance. The performance is nearly identical. However, we are talking about spending MORE MONEY to replace something that ISN'T WORN OUT (like my Advans) to DEGRADE PERFORMANCE. I did not buy RT-615s just to look cool or whatever. I got them to RETAIN as much performance as possible without having to buy new Advans. I also was trying to buy barely used Advans, but I didn't find any when I needed them.
I also then went and did 2 track events on my RT-615s only to show how incredible they were relative to other tires. I start by blowing away everyone in my class at the first event (remember my video passing 3 Z06s in the same session?) despite them all being on race tires while I was on my street tires. Then, at the second event, I had the fastest lap of anyone at the event (was only HPDE3/HPDE4) by a more than 1 second over the 2nd fastest car, and then the rest of field was over 3.5 seconds behind. Yeah, this is not on my race tires, which are even faster - this is just rolling right off the street and unloading my tools.
No correlation WHATSOEVER...

..anyone wanna buy a HKS SSQV?.. lol

I make a perfectly valid point, you're just too narcissistic to believe it. A little self reflection may do you good.
Peace my friend.
Wow! i had no idea this thread would go like this. All you guys have some really good knowledge and advice. i thank all of you for making it PERFECTLY clear on the whole VTA vs RECIR. bov question. Now must i ask then: WHAT IS THE BEST DAMN RECIR. BOV TO BUY???
My mods: LICP/Walbro 255/Blitz drop-in/3in tbe/test pipe/hallman mbc/cams (on their way to my house thanks to HPF!)/ARP studs. I'm going to put on a greddy timing belt also when i do the cams. thnx again for everyone helping me out on this topic. We're all EVO ppl here, so lets all get along! haha thnx again for all the help

Don't argue with Warralton...he's apparantly appointed himself the "know-all" of Evo's within the last year. Do I know the guy, nope. I just call it like I see it. Dude, if you're gonna bash on someone for thier choice in parts, I suggest you bring hard proof of your claims. Otherwise I'd appreciate it if you'd stop talking for the rest of us. You're not a certified tuner, you're not an Evo "know-all" and you most certainly have bullied your way across this board since you became "sponsored".
As for VTA, I run the TiAL on my Evo which is still MAF and guess what? I've never had an idle issue, never stalled out at a light (unless I dumped the clutch too soon), and I drive my Evo like I stole the thing, drag race it when I can, and generally abuse it for what it's worth.

I do not doubt Warr's knowledge, only his approach in relaying the message to people is pretty prehistoric.
Cliff Notes for the thread:
1) VTA is not the "ideal" setup for Evo's.
2) Even though VTA is not designed for our vehicles, it may still work, but not at it's best.
3) Warr does not have a way w/ words.

i still don't under stand the whole process of VTA bov causing you to run rich when you let off the throttle. even though the air is already calculated by the MAF, none of that air enter the engine when the throttle body is closed no matter if you use VTA or recirc bov. the ecu should know that the throttle body is closed and only give it fuel to keep the engine idle. i'm not saying that i don't believe that VTA cause you to run rich when you let off the gas, i just don't understand why.
i think an advantage of running VTA is that your turbo suck in fresh air. remember compressed air is hotter than ambient air. when you use recirc bov, you suck in air that's hotter than ambient air when you get back on the throttle quick, like when shifting.

I like my VTA so far. All four of my buddies are running the Tial on their 05s with no problems and I haven't had issues with mine either. As a matter of fact I have ran more consistant 1/4 times since I have had it on... However, I did have drivability issues with my VTA before on my 03 and my STI... My best and most honest opinion to you is to go with what you like. Try and if you don't like it, sell it. Tastes are indiscussable, you don't need to be judged for what floats your boat
I ran the HKS SSQV and it was recirced. The car still ran like ****. I had no boost leaks either. It caused serious surge. I sold it to a friend and told him of the problems I had. He installed it and likes the damn thing. I bought a JDM MR BOV and it is awesome.
