Help Needed Strange Sound.

Okay guys heres the deal. I made a thread about this before talking about it being from the driveline... Well its not.. so i made a new one..

I am hearing a Tapping noise from what seems like the head. It almost sounds like the old DSM tapping sept 2xlouder. My car is stock the head has never been opened it just ramdomly started doing this.

About a week ago i started hearing a slight clicking noise from the car at light light light throttle like 5% I thought it was a CV joint and kept driving the car because when i pressed the clutch in it would stop.

After a WOT 1-3 run. I can now hear the sound very plainly and it doesnt stop when i press the clutch in. Using a stethascope(sp) Im almost positive the sound is coming from the head.

I drained the oil and it was 1 1/2 quarts low. I Just bought the car and I didn't realise evo's burnt that much oil.

If you can hear the sound at idle it isn't very loud.. And it seems that you can only hear it on the upswing of the rpms. It is rpm variant.

My thoughts are.. Worse Case senerio its a Spun Rod Bearing..

But i'm leaning more twards a crushed valve. What do you guys think?

Also if it was a spun bearing wouldn't i have seen oil shavings in the oil? Or around the drain plug

If it was a spun rod bearing you would know because the noise wouldn't be coming from the head and that b*tch would be locked up by now.

A lot of Evo's get a pretty loud lifter tick. It could be a collapsed lifter (possible if it was that low on oil), maybe it's been over revved and damaged a valve spring. Did the sound go away with more oil? More than likely it has been beaten on by the previous owner which brings me to my next thing.

Evo's generally don't burn much oil unless they were not broken in properly. Neither of mine used much oil at all.

Its not the common "lifter tick" thou it sounds like it.. I had a dsm its not a constant chatter at idle.. Its more audiable

A collapsed lifter sounds about right. I think im just going to trailor it to mitus t/m.. My only mods are Cusco Suspension, Volks, and a K&N air filiter.

I think they're on the correct path, sounds like a deflated/collapsed HLA.

Could be...that must be a defective part....no amount of abuse should cause that with those mods I wouldn't think....
