cross threaded O2 sensor???

well i finally got back from my deployment and went to a local muffler shop to get my TBE put on. they said that when they were taking the O2 sensor out of the cat that it hit a stopping point and that it was cross threaded. has anyone ever heard of the O2 sensor being cross threaded from the factory? i'm thinking about going to a different shop, but i don't want them forcing it out and have to buy a new sensor. anybody else encounter this on their exhaust install?

Try a new sensor or just tap the hole.

They Arent Cross Threaded from Factory, either the guy f up or cross threaded it him self. Umm you might just want to get a new o2 and just re-tap the cat. Use lots of Wd40.

That sucks man. Make them fix it; I doubt the factory would have done that.

ive been thinking about it and doing a lot of searching and i'm just going to chance it and have them try to get it out. hopefully they are wrong and the 02 will be fine. but if not, i'll just order an electronic 02 simulator. i dont think that they did it because all they were doing was taking it out to take the exhaust off. i did find another thread with someone saying that their sensor was cross threaded.

I installed my TBE a few days ago and the o2 sensor is still in my stock cat. It came out about halfway and then got stuck again. This weekend I'm going to use a breaker bar to get it out or snap it trying. Also, I don't think the electronic fix works on IX's.

my front 02 sensor was cross threaded when i removed it to install an ebay O2 housing a couple weeks ago. it came out half way and got stuck, i forced it out and got cross threaded. it wasn't too bad and i was able to file the thread and fixed them.

same thing happened to me when I took out my front O2 sensor. It had never been out before I removed it.

Same thing happened to me, the O2 sensor threads actually melted in the cat so therefore was impossible to remove/put back in. Factory didnt use enough anti-seize if any.... Make sure you do.

Yup, same thing happened on my Evo X.

I put up a post about a cheap fix in a different thread:

I HAVE SEEN TWO IXs CROSS THREADED from the factory!!! I couldn't believe it either, but the first was a brand new IX that a doctor brought to the shop I was working at and when we went to install the O2 housing, we found the O2 sensor was cross threaded. The car only had 1k miles on it. The second car was a guy with almost 20k, and same thing, went to install O2 housing, and the O2 sensor was cross threaded. It's definitely weird.
